I have wanted to do this thread for a long time. I thought today would be a decent time to do it. It probably isn't since we are 0-2, but I'm going to post it anyway.

These stand out to me.

That is A LOT of games. It is awesome that he was here for as long as he was.

Thanksgiving domination, the way it should be in Dallas, him and Tex set the tone.

Great record for OT games.

That is an amazing record for season openers, I would be interested to know how Landry ran his pre-season camps compared to how we do it today. Any idea hos or others?

So many playoff appearances. I don't expect this team to make the Super Bowl every year but I don't think we are asking for too much for a playoff appearance almost every year (and not an embarrassing one ala Minni).

Landry really set the bar for this franchise good and high.

Thanks Hos, cool stuff, makes me miss the "good ol days" I never saw.

I don't know 20-16 in the post season is not great. I thought it would have been much better than it was.

Tom Landry was a legend, and an innovator of both offensive and defensive schemes that changed the way people played, coached and then re-changed football ie reacting to Landry's schemes.

However, Tom Landry should have won more than 2 SB's , Landry was NOT a great game day coach; he was set in his ways to a fault. That's a big part of the reason that Staubach clashed with him.

Landry should have never lost the Ice Bowl game, he had superior talent, he should have never let Walsh and Montana pick him underneath in the Catch game. He under used Tony Dorsett in the Super Bowl. The Cowboys loss to the Colts was also unacceptable and Staubach sitting on the bench.

Landry also lost 3 Title games in the 80's with MANY of the same players that he had in the 70's. Landry did NOT like change.

Great man(from what I know ), Great coach , Great mind and builder of the Sport but he left too much on the table in terms of closing the deal.

Yeah, I hate to say it because people still don't understand the word, but very vanilla.

Landry was a stickler for detail and I remember one year in particular that I thought he would never run on 3rd down nor throw on 1st or 2nd down. I forget which year it was though.

Unbelievable.

That may be the most impressive stat of all.

And back before 1964 he had really very little talent

Ice Bowl...Jerry Kramer moved early and Starr followed that push into the endzone.

Super Bowl V...Also called "The Blunder Bowl." I will never liek Craig Morton because of this game. We still could have won it if the refs had a clue. Dave Manders recovered a fumble that was awarded to Baltimore. Mel Renfro was deemed to have tipped a pass that John Mackey took in for a score. No he didn't.

Super Bowl X...The very first wildcard team to ever advance to a Super Bowl against perhaps the best team in the world at that time.

Super Bowl XIII...Fred Swearingin made one of the dumbest play calls ever and Jackie "Bless Hsi Heart" Smith dropped a sure TD or we win this one.

To say Landry came up small is simply wrong.

newbies and those who only know what they hear from sportswriters are the ones that say that.

Want to get depressed?

Since Tom Landry, teams that started 0-2.

1989, 1993, 2000, 2001, & 2010

Hostile, it might be cause we are 0-2. At least this brings a smile to all of our faces.

One disappointing thing, though, was that, out of those 20 consecutive winning seasons, only two ended in a Super Bowl championship.

A few things here or there and the Cowboys easily could have won 4 Super Bowls. For example, if Dallas had simply played a bit better in Super Bowl V, or the 1981 NFC Championship ("The Catch,") Landry would most likely have retired with four rings.

We had a lot of chances to win more than 2 but things always seemed to go against us at the worst possible times. By my count, we could have won as many as 8 SBs in that time if a few plays/calls would have gone our way instead of the other way.

BTW Don Shula only has 2 SB wins. Only Chuck Noll (4), Bill Walsh (3), Joe Gibbs (3), & Bill Belechick (3) have more. Just sayin z'all...

2 Super Bowls being disrespected just baffles me.

Who disrespected Mr. Landry or his 2 SB's? I just felt and many would agree that he had quite the chance to win at least one more.
Don't forget he loses a big game in NY on a Joe Danelo FG on the last game of the season that swings Home field to the 49ers to setup the "Catch" game.

I love Tom Landry just thought he was a better coach than and Noll and should have beaten them once.

Yes you are 100% correct about the ref decisions in those games, they were painful to live with until we beat Pittsburgh in 1995-96, I finally felt some vindication.

He was a better coach than Noll. Even Noll will tell you this. That doesn't change the fact that 2 Super Bowls is impressive, not pedestrian as you tried to make it sound.
