Here are some pictures of a trip I took to Mission, Texas a few years back.

This is a mural that the Town dedicated to him. He was still alive at the time.

Along the sidewalk in front of the mural, they have several hand and foot prints along with the autograph.

The street where the mural is on is also name Tom Landry.

My inlaws live in Mission and I have wanted to take those pics for a long time but the last time I looked they were redoing the murals.

The Dolphins and Broncos logos in the mural cracked me up. Those are the teams Landry's Cowboys beat for Super Bowl victories.

It always perplexes me that Don Shula is considered to be a greater coach than Tom Landry, but in the head-to-head battle they had in the biggest game of them all, Landry won. I know that Shula's Dolphins had an undefeated season after that, but Landry still beat him on the big stage when it mattered the most. Plus, Landry's Cowboys had 20 consecutive winning seasons. Shula can't touch that. Perception versus reality, I guess.

Yes, I believe they redid the entire thing back in 2005. From what I understand, they removed all the coats of paint and started new.

The pictures I took were from before that. I imagine it's nicer looking now. I may have to go by there again.

Back when they were both coaching, the "greatness" of Shula was emphasized much more than Landry who was in the midst of 20 consecutive winning seasons. It could be because of the 17-0 thing, but still Landry beat him head-to-head on the greatest stage and no one ever brought up that point. Ever. It was not explicit. It was implicit. But it was there.
