My uncle also served in the war as a pilot.
Tom went to Mission HS...my uncle to Mercedes
They knew each other and hung out a bit. After the war my uncle “Coach” played ball with Tom at Texas and they became buds. Coach went on to a very successful HS coaching career and as a principal but stayed in the valley mostly
I was fortunate to have met Tom in the mid 70s...a truly gracious man

This segment was on the FOX pre game show a couple of weeks ago. What a great tribute. Made me cry. And yes, Tom's son looks exactly like him!!
