Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers vs The Black Crowes

I agree with you on this.........my issue is with singers who can't pull it off live......Robinson (although he's gotten better lately) and Billy Corgan come to mind immediately, as does the guy from Counting Crows....horrible live.

Corrigan is terrible live or recorded

I can't stand nasal singers

Does this mean you're voting Black Crowes?

I like Petty. Simple, but man how many variations of simple can you bang out and still make it sound good? He does it well, and he'd be wise to keep it simple in concert as well. Not much room for improv on that stuff.

I only know the 3 songs that were overplayed on the radio as far as the Black Crowes and they were cool while they lasted. But I kind of stopped listening to the radio and had no urge to go get some Black Crowes.

I can take it or leave it either way. If you put a knife to my throat, I guess I would take Petty.

ahhhh, but you're missing the Crowes' best stuff if you only know the radio songs. Check out Thorn in my Pride...it's a good starting point.

You should've done a NCAA type bracket with this band vs band threads.

Petty btw..

I am a huge BLACK CROWES fan. there first 2 abulms are nothing less than great.

I have never been a huge Tom Petty fan but it would not matter
Crowes all the way here

The Black Crowes stretch out and play extended versions of their songs. From the one Petty concert I went to, he merely attempted to reproduce the recorded songs as closely as he could, which bores me.

I've seen them several times and that never happened. Wierd.

BTW, Tom all the way.

For me, Petty.

Always good for a great track and he was like the brilliant actor who could show different shades of character without losing the core of what he was. Going from something like Refugee to You Wreck Me...very different style of songs, but still true to Petty's form. Then tracks like 'I won't back down', 'Free Falling' and 'Learning to Fly.' Just great stuff.

Part of it was that I never really dug the Crowes that much. They came off as annoying more than anything. But, they certainly had talent. Better voice and probably better with the guitar. More or less, they had all of the better pieces, but Petty was the better band.

Petty, but I don't understand why these two are being compared. Petty has been around a lot longer. The Black Crowes aren't really a contemporary of Petty and the Heartbreakers.
