I'm pissed, the Miners have their best season in a long, long time, and Auburn goes and hires their coach away... we Miner fans have been through this before, but it still sucks...

The only silver lining to this is the cast of contenders to replace him... at the head of the list is Billy Gillispie, another Miners coach who got hired away after they got semi-good, this time by Texas A&M, who he subsequently dumped to go to Kentucky (where he bombed)... maybe after that experience, he'll be happy to come back home, where he first found success, and actually stay a while... perhaps being a big fish in a small pond will be acceptable to him now...

Another top contender is Tim Floyd, the disgraced USC coach who was once a Don Haskins assistant... maybe he'll come to the Miners the way Mike Price (their current football coach) did after his scandal, and stay a while...

A third contender is a bit of a dark horse, Bob Marlin from Sam Houston State... he has made that program into a tournament contender most every year...

But damn, I liked Barbee... if nothing else, he could get you recruits from the Memphis area pretty consistently...

Our former coach didn't really recruit in Memphis. Pastner is recruiting Memphis. That Memphis pipeline is gonna dry up for Barbee. We have already locked up 3 of the top Memphis recruits.

Now we know why he turned down UH.

Gillespie and Floyd's names have been thrown around here, too. It's pretty obvious that both of them will go where the money goes.

Yeah, we'll both be targeting pretty much the same prospects... UTEP might have an advantage in the team they'll be returning; there were no seniors on this year's 26-7 team, though man mountain Derrick Caracter may opt for early entry to the NBA... he shouldn't, he's still not a finished product, but those are the whispers...

Good to see an old high school friend doing well. Keep up the good work Tony.

Maybe, we're losing our top three players this year. I could see Aubrey Coleman riding somebody's NBA bench next year. D-league or otherwise. He's a scorer.

That said, UTEP has a slight advantage due to a number of factors. But I think UH can be in the mix if they pick the right guy who can actually grab some of the local talent in Houston.

They had the number 1 high school team in the nation and Houston didn't even get a sniff at those guys. Primary reason why Penders "resigned."

On a side note, we also lost our women's coach to health reasons.

What's up with that huge monstrosity on the side of his neck??

Just as soon as he draws his first NBA paycheck, he should have that monstrosity removed...

You are right, he's a scorer... but Julyan Stone had him frustrated for a long time in that C-USA championship game...

UH really needs to mine that shaft...

I'm not sure he can. People who keloid can't really tolerate any type of scars. He should try tho at some point and hope it doesn't grow back.

I don't know that he was frustrated more like he was out of gas. He'd played 116 out a possible 120 mins up to that point. Dead legs.

No kidding! Even the pizza delivery guy (who didn't even go to UH) was venting about this the other day. Boosters are livid.

Well, it looks like Floyd is the Miners' next head coach...

Here's hoping he can stay on the right side of the NCAA watchdogs...
