As the years have gone by, it seems that Dorsett is somewhat under appreciated.

I believe the true measure of his greatness was in the fact that he was college football’s all time leading rusher for over 20 years. Over 6000 yards and a four time All-American.

When he retired from the NFL he was the 2nd all time leading rusher behind Walter Payton.

He was fabulous.

His NFL career was even more impressive to me given that he had to share touches with so many teammates.

I remember watching Pitt win the national championship game and thought, it would be cool if somehow the Cowboys could draft Dorsett.

Same here! It was almost surreal when the Cowboys drafted TD, talk about everything falling in place.

I have always believed that he was capable of putting up numbers like Walter Payton, Earl Campbell, and Eric Dickerson did if he got the same amount of touches they did.

When he retired , he was the 2nd leading rusher in NFL history if I remember correctly. Id say he put up their numbers.

I was at the heisman dinner a few years ago and TD was at the afterparty in the hotel. He and I sat a drank together for about 30 minutes. Really good guy and he can put them away. I asked him about his 99 yard run. He said the Minnesota defense was really big that year. He was in the huddle praying Tom Landry would not give it to him. They called the play and he ran for his life scared. That's how he told it. Great story and a thrill for me.

I also had the privilege to talk with him, and I brought up his 99 yd run.
He said “I got the ball about four yds deep in the end zone, so it was actually a 105 yd run”. TD always trying to get a few extra yards…

I watched the Deep Blue on YouTube. I have to admit, I'm an old head so I know Tony's old too, but it's hard to see your childhood star getting old. It's sad in a way.

What a privilege I had watching Tony run to daylight. He was a one man show at times but if the line could get him that crease he could really take it home from any place on the field. Tony never slacked and played the position with honors.
