In the 7 years that he and Drew Pearson we're on the team together Hill led the team in receptions 6 times, receiving yards 6 times, and TD's 5 times. Hill's rookie season he didn't play on offense regularly and had 2 receptions, that would be the only year he wasn't the team's receving leader until his last season (where he still was the leading WR in receptions, yards, and TDs).
So in essence when Pearson and Hill were starting across from each other, Hill led the team in receptions and receiving yards every season, and TD's in all but one. Their career numbers in every category are almost identical; Pearson had 10 more receptions, 166 less yards, and 3 less touchdowns than Hill (despite playiing 1 more season -- 11 to 10). Hill went on to lead the team in receing two more years, after Pearson retired, before finishing behind Hershel Walker his last year.
Why am I saying this? Not because I believe Hill was better than Pearson, but because he was not a clear WR2. No "clear" WR2 leads the team in receiving every year when across from a "clear" WR1. Yet Hill did. He and Pearson were 1a and 1b (interchangeably) before those labels even existed.
Tony Hill contributed to a superbowl win, another superbowl appearance, as well as 4 more conference championship appearances. The disrespect he gets is sometimes borderline sad to criminal.
Well putTrue, but it is even more odd the the Jimster is not in the ROH.
Thanks, Jerra...you Narcissist!
There's a lot of misconception of Hill he was definitely the number 1 once he started. His peak was also longer than Drew Pearsons. Drew started falling off after 1979 not getting more than 50 receptions or 700 yards again after that season. Tony Hill had 2 seasons under 700 yards and one of those season (1982) was a shortened season he would have had about 1000 yards that year if it was a full season.
I still think we should be putting in Harvey Martin, Too Tall Jones, and Jimmy Johnson before we think about guys like Tony Hill though.
Tony Hill is one of only two Cowboys to lead the team in receiving 8 straight years (Irvin) and is third in team receiving
for 7 of those 8 years they were a playoff team, winning one conference title
seems odd that he isnt in the ring of honor
Harvey Martin before anyone...it's a total joke he isn't.
Tony Hill, Harvey Martin, Cornell Green, and any of the Great Wall of Dallas should be in the Ring of Honor at minimum (GWD should go in as a unit) and Martin and Green deserve the Hall of Fame.Tony Hill is one of only two Cowboys to lead the team in receiving 8 straight years (Irvin) and is third in team receiving

Tony Hill was a no.1 WR the majority of his career. People forget that he played 6 of his 10 year career leading the Cowboys in receiving with Drew Pearson on the other side (this is why it took Drew so long to get in the HOF). When you lead the Cowboys in receiving 8 of the 10 years you played with a HOF WR opposite you, you are a no.1 WR.No. He was a clear WR2 before that label even existed. Not everyone can get into the Ring of Honor. It’s supposed to be exclusive. Hill was a very good player but he doesn’t make the cut.
Seems odd Jimmy is not in the ROH.Tony Hill is one of only two Cowboys to lead the team in receiving 8 straight years (Irvin) and is third in team receiving

What is this Ring of Honor you speak of ?Do they still do that?
Jerry can't put anybody in the ROH because it draws attention to the fact that Jimmy is not in.Tony Hill is one of only two Cowboys to lead the team in receiving 8 straight years (Irvin) and is third in team receiving
