Growing up in the 80s, I loved watching this man play. One of my favorite players of all time. One of the most underrated Cowboys. I hated it when Landry cut him just so didnt break Drew Pearsons receiving club records. Thrill Hill should be in the Ring of Honor. anyone else feel this way?

Hey, I'm a huge Tony Hill fan.

But late in his career, he had the tendency to gain weight and get a little lazy.

I talked to Tony several times after his career ended and he would admit that he didn't have it all together back then. He really straigtened things out after his playing career.

Landry didn't cut him to prevent him from breaking Drew Pearson's records.

Hill was a very good player however he was let go because he had came to camp out of shape and over weight.

Where does stuff like that even come from?

You must be related to Hill if you seriously think Landry cut him to protect Pearsons team receiving records. :laugh2:

Thrill Hill. His license plate said 'DIAL 80'. I am a Cowboys fan because of that man. Definitely my favorite Cowboy of all time and that's saying a lot.

I've followed the Cowboys since about 1973 and honestly don't ever recall Landry saying why he cut any player. If Hill ever divulged why, I can't remember that either. Maybe DCfanatic can do a few "distant replay" shows periodically with old Cowboys and get the real answer. One thing for sure, he was a dang good receiver when he played.

I'd like to know how I can still be surprised by the nonsense on this site. I can't decide if I'm loosing it or just getting more mellow in my old age.

Interesting that you got that first hand from Tony. That redeems some him in my mind. Confession is good for the soul. I always thought of Hill as an underachiever who didn't work as hard as he should, and wasn't a loyal teammate.

His "medicine ball" quote about Danny White totally soured me on Hill.

Anything more specific you're at liberty to share Chief?

Tony Hill.. God Bless Him.

One of my favorite Cowboy memories is watching a MNF game in Trinidad (i worked at sea for a few years) and the Cowboys trailed the Skins 23-3 at halftime.

Tony caught two long TDs and the Boys rallied back for the win.

I'll never forget the strange looks i got from the non football crowd who were essentially watching me, watch the game.

Cool stuff.. nice to think about Tony again.

I seriously doubt that was the reason. Maybe it was more he was slowing down too much, and got lazy.

He was great to watch and was a terriffic player.
