I am interested to see him this year. He’s coming off a tough injury to his foot, and he’s in a contract year.

Huge year for Zeke too. We can realistically get out of his deal next offseason. Would love to see us keep TP if he can handle the work load.

Regardless— we need to grab a RB in the draft and prepare for life after Zeke

Very interesting. Keep in mind, Pollard has never logged the kind of numbers a starting RB would have. Doesn’t mean he’s not valuable. Most NFL teams are looking for RBs that can fit their situational needs. The old “bell cow” RB model is mostly a thing of the past.

The 3 yrs, $11 million deal looks very team friendly so you’re probably right that Pollard’s agent would see this as a low ball offer. A lot will hinge on Pollard’s year this year. If the Cowboys feature him more, he will garner a higher payday than 3 yrs/$11 mil.

And that’s why the number is low
Used right he can be a serious weapon but used to run between the tackles 20 times a game and I don’t see him being successful
That said if you watch Sporttrac estimates they tend to be really close to what guys end up getting. Some contracts have fluff to make the agent look good but in real money they tend to be close
This year could change that number one way or the other. If he has a great year it could go up, and if he misses time to injury it could go down
That’s a moment in time estimate not necessarily what it might be after the season

Pollard, if he wants to stay, will be affordable.

I would like to see him extended and Dallas use a 2nd or 3rd rounder next draft (even a 1st for Bijon Robinson). And cut Zeke of course for cap purposes.

He can’t be the number one back. He’s not a good enough blocker and although he can make plays between the tackles he’s not consistent in that area. He’s not real effective picking up tough yards to move the chains in short yardage situations. He has too many negative carries. He’s a better version of Felix Jones and Joseph Randle but would struggle as an every down back. However he’s similar to those other backs.

seems like a no brainer to me, step one: sign TP, two: cut Zeke, three: draft or sign another decent back to slow the wear on TP

I would offer him that to see if he would take it.
It does seem like a very good deal for the Cowboys.

Good luck trying to convince some of the fans on this board that Pollard isn’t an every down back. Every time he breaks a long run for a TD you have fans who think he can do that every week, along with 120+ per game if we make him our bell cow. Lol Many thought the same thing with Felix Jones and Joseph Randall. Good complementary backs but not every down backs.

Here's Zeke's contract........notice his 2022 salary is only $10M and his dead cap drops to only $6M after the 2023 season. My point is IF Zeke comes close to regaining his form AND gains 1200-1500 all-purpose yards, I'm not sure he's NOT released. In other words, we may wanna pump the brakes on this is Zeke's last year talk.
