If I'm Jason Garrett, this is my goal for Tony Romo. 35 passes per game. I want to get Felix Jones and Dez Bryant completely brought into this offense, and with 35 passes per game I see the breakdown like this.

22 Passes - Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Roy Williams (a little over 7 targets a piece)
8 Passes - Witten/Bennett
5 Passes - Felix Jones

However, at least 3-4 passes to Dez Bryant are deep bombs. I'd try it at least once per quarter. Which should really open things up underneath.

My goal? Force the safeties to play deep. Spread the defense out in the nickel. Dissuade the blitz. Take advantage of Felix Jones and said spread out defense, give him at least 15 carries per game, and work him on screens and passes in the flats and in the middle.

Right now we're at 43 passes per game (8 more than im looking for)

and here is the breakdown

23% of targets - miles austin (9 passes per game)
16% of targets - roy williams (6 passes per game)
18% of targets - Jason witten (7 passes per game)
14% of targets - dez bryant (6 passes per game)
10% of targets - martellus bennett (4 passes per game)
13% of targets - Running Backs (5 passes per game)

I think we're passing to our tight ends FAR too often.

The Pats who are tight end pass heavy pass to tight ends 22% of the time compared to our 28%. Their top 3 wideouts account for 57% of their targets compared to our 54%.

The wide receivers are bigger playmakers that tight ends. Especially on our team. We need to get the ball to Dez more than we do Jason Witten and MartyB.

Nice post...

just a little tangent. Atlanta is 4-1, they run 39 times a game. So to the people who say you need to pass to win, suck on that :laugh2:

the next 3 highest scoring offenses are broken down like this in terms to percentage of passes to their top 3 wrs.

Colts - 58%
Chargers - 43% (Gates)
Jets - 46% (they just traded for santonio holmes)

How often you pass or run is not what is important, and it's usually based on the game situation.

The key to winning is passing the ball better than your opponent, no matter whether you pass a little or pass a lot. Running the ball a lot and/or running it well almost never helps you win if you don't pass better than your opponent.

Tell that to the super bowl ravens

The Ravens passed the ball better than their opponents, so they already know it.

The same Ravens that had a good pass defense?

Yes, the same Ravens that held their opponents without a touchdown pass and had 10 interceptions and 14 sacks in the playoffs.

In my opinion its not how much we pass or how much we run. The problem with us has been with scoring. If we can score more than the other guys I think we have a 100% chance of winning the game (sarcasm).

Anyways, the problem with Dallas is when we start to get some momentum going, we kill it by trying to give the ball to someone who isn't a playmaker. The players I'll mention are Marty and Barber. If we can find a way to NOT give them the ball, our chances of winning will go up.
