So just caught the 1st and 10 segment on espn.com with Jay Crawford and Skip Clueless. They were arguing that Romo trying to qualify for the US Open is a major distraction and that his #1 priority should be football.

Clueless said that he thinks football is #3 on Romo's list (Behind Jessica Simpson and golf I figure). He's talking about how it takes weeks and weeks and months of devotion and such and how he should be focusing that time on football. Crawford said the same thing.

So what if he tries to quality for the US Open?

Crawford said "What is golf? Can't it be after football?" Uh..well technically it is...unless he means after football as a career vs a season.

Clueless said, "Football needs to be his offseason priority." I wonder if he thought the same about Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson?

What do you guys think: Should Tony Romo play and try to qualify for the US Open, or should he be only focused on football?

romo needs to dump jessica simpson then focus on doing whatever he wants so, no, i don't have a problem with romo playing golf. he's tried qualifying for the U.S. open before so i don't see what the big deal is.

Golf *can* take endless devotion to qualify for the US Open, but there's guys that qualify for the US Open who play golf for a living and barely practice. So take a guy like Romo who continues to miss the cut at the US Open, I don't think he's completely devoted to golf in the offseason. In fact, I believe he did worse this year than last year, which would be a sign that he's playing less golf...not more golf. If you've been playing golf for quite some time like Romo has, it doesn't take much to go out and shoot in the 70's.

As usual, Skip doesn't have a clue as to what he's talking about and just says whatever because instead of having a thoughtful, logical topic to write and talk about, he relies on being controversial for the sake of being controversial. Because the former takes a thing called talent which Skip is severely lacking.

Tony missed the qualification by 4 strokes. I know it would be a dream come true for him to make the cut well better luck next time Tony.

Has any player ever published a 365 day schedule of football related activities? Film, weights, running, learning the book, throwing, catching, travel, practicing, playing....

Trying to qualify took about 6 hours out of one freakin' day... Tony himself said that he hadn't had a chance to work on his game before attempting to qualify...

Anybody making a big deal out of Tony playing some golf in the offseason is a freakin' MORON... there are lots of players who do the same, which is why there are a number of celebrity tournaments that heavily feature NFL players each year...

The ones griping about Tony's golf certainly aren't focusing on THEIR careers 24/7/365... being a pro football player requires a serious commitment, but it does not require that you give up absolutely everything else in your life...

He actually didn't come close to qualifying, either this time, or last year... he failed to make it past the regional qualifying, and there's still the sectional qualifying (I may have that backwards)...

In fact, unless things have really changed, qualifying at both levels used to require 36 holes in one day, so apparently Tony didn't even make the cut to play the second round... so he'd need to string together 4 rounds better than anything he's played so far in order to qualify...

Basically, from what I've read about Tony's game, he's a gifted golfer who simply does not put in the time to maximize his game... in that tournament a couple-three weeks back, he had two fine rounds, and two completely gawdawful rounds...

That's what happens to you when you don't get to play a lot; some days, everything falls into place early on in the round, and you're able to post a good number more or less from memory... and some days, you don't find your swing until you're somewhere on the back nine, which appears to be what happened to Tony in qualifying... he was dreadful on the front nine, played the back nine under par...

To this ol' club pro, these are classic signs of a good player who hasn't had enough of a chance to groove his game...

That's just stupid, man... do you think that Peyton is not engaging in some R&R this offseason??

I'll bet you have your hobbies, so how can you reasonably demand that Romo forego his??

It would be nice to know how much time Tony spends on Golf, Cedric on fishing, Peyton on commercials, Jeremy Shockey on drinkin'... so as to get a good fix on this.
