Jerry can blow more smoke than a Cheech and Chong double-feature

Like it or not, the Dallas Cowboys now have a quarterback controversy on their hands. A few months back the team invested in Dak Prescott as a project who would fill the short-term need as Tony Romo’s backup and who had the raw skills to serve as the potential heir to the throne. It was a good move strategically, and one that most likely was a season or two overdue. The only problem is that nobody seems to have bothered informing young Mr. Prescott that he was not supposed to have set the National Football League on fire.

The powers that be in Dallas had to know that the day was coming when there would be a battle for the starting QB position in Dallas. One can only assume that they consider this to be a good thing, after all one of the mantras preached by Jason Garrett has always been competition up and down the roster. 2018 looked to be the season when Prescott would be ready to challenge the veteran Dallas passer for his job but 2017 had the potential to be the year if things came together early. Not in anyone’s wildest dreams would Dak Prescott grab the bull by the horns and take control starting with the first game of his professional career.

Too me, ole Jerry boy, right or wrong, will put Tony back in just as soon as he is healthy enough to compete. That is for this season and Tony's last shot at it. It's only a guess but it is logical that the F.O releases Romo on June 1st. That would make the most business sense and all this assumes Prescott is the real thing...which seems promising and a big relief for the Club and fans. Romo plays again this season..bet on it. The only question is for how long and at what level!! Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

no easy answer here but incredible position for the team to be in. If Dak keeps winning and the division race remains close, I don't see a change at QB being made. If on the other hand Dak comes back down to earth and begins to play like a "rookie" OR we take a multiple game lead in the division are the only ways I see Romo temporarily starting (for trade purposes). Yes JJ is a loyal man but I think he also knows the best interests of the team, organization and fan base trump Romo's chance to compete for that illusive ring. Also, either way, Romo is getting that huge pay check, which at this point is the obligation JJ has to Romo.

The one reason that I think Jerry might do the right thing and keep Dak in (assuming the win streak continues) is that I believe that even Jerry realizes how rare it is in the NFL to have a team riding a 'magic wave' with everything clicking...and he himself would like to see another Super Bowl win by his Cowboys before he dies. But I guess we'll see how the Cowboys do against the Eagles (extremely likely Prescott is playing that game regardless) - but I anticipate that the Romonians will discount a solid performance there with something like 'well, Philly was beaten up by the Vikings in the previous week and they were poor birds who couldn't stand up to the O-Line, Dak had nothing to do with the win...'

Oh, one other reason Jerry might stay with Dak - this is marketing gold.

Correct on all counts. That is exactly what any other GM would and should do. This is ole Jerry boy and he dances to his own band and will do the unexpected. I am sure he will find a way to make a mess out of a good thing.
