Tony Romo.... cocky and arrogant?

Charming cockiness ... that's a good (an accurate) way of looking at it. Someone earlier dubbed him the Smiling Assassin ... I kind of liked that nickname.

If this kid doesn't take the mediots, even the most cynical of them by storm, I will be shocked. And build up a following amongst the non-Dallas NFL fanbase. AND prove himself an enticement to Madison Avenue.

The sky's the limit for this kid; bless his patient little heart for spending the last four years EARNING his way to a big payday.

What do his critics want? For him to hang his head and apologize after throwing a TD? Does he do a cartwheel? No. A little dance? No. Are they mad that he's happy on the sidelines or something? Weird.

Yeah, the media should love him. But so should the fans. Very few even gave him the slightest inkling of a chance.

Romo just took it in stride and kept plugging away at his development in spite of the mass underestimation. I think THAT is what makes his story so admirable. Everyone likes a success story.

And humongo it will be HH.

He's our very own Vince Papale (however you spell it). One day they'll be doing a movie about Tony.

Not to blame the media again, but why not. I am sure the guys on that board just picked up on Buck's question to Aikman about it. It seemed pretty out of the blue at the time. He should have said, "I have heard that he does X, Y , and Z and some players think that he is cocky, what do you think?".

Instead he kind of just throws the question out there as if it has some basis in fact.

You know, you cant blame the kid, is so hard to be humble when you´re a Dallas Cowboy...

Please.

YOU'D be cocky if you were playing on a glass strewn construction site with a rock in a pillow case for a football, dodging backhoes, pretending they were #31.;)

Let Romo be cocky and arrogant. He has earned it. As long as he keeps backing it up, who the hell cares? You think we would be sitting at 7-4 and making a run at the playoffs if Bledsoe was still starting? I'm not trying to diss the guy, but Romo brought back life to a near-dead offense.

The way Tony constantly turns all congratulations and complements in his pcs to praise of the team is what comes across most compellingly. He is charmingly and genuinely humble - not a hint of false humility. But a lot of intelligence behind his responses.

Romo is SO non-arrogant that the compound word 'self-effacing' is apropos, and if it's his smile that makes some folks think 'cocky', they need a few sessions with Dr Phil.

Really. It's laughable to attribute such words to Romo, and unfortunate that real 'success' is so rare that it has begun to equal 'arrogance' in some folks' minds.

BINGO

I was reading through the thread and I was sure someone would mention it. Good to be able to count on the intelligence on this board.

This last press conference after having a 140 QB rating and 5 TDs, he is making comments about how the guys up front and the receivers getting open were doing all the work making his job easy. Plus some kudos to the defense.

Anyone who thinks that a fist pump and a smile after we just scored a touchdown right down your throat is a tool bag in need of a nice bus fire.

I said this in a previous post that I started that noone responded to. Romo has found a way to "ZONE" faster than any other QB I have ever seen.

This is what the "IT" factor is that he has, that noone can put their finger on. Moxie? Yes of course. But only because he is SUPREMELY confident in his own ability to make plays, regarless of circumstance- score, or interception, or stalled drive.

I was watching the Bucs game with my friends and Romo kinda started slowly. I told everyone in the room that if he completes two passes in a row, the game will be effectively "over.." I said this kid gets hot like nothing I've ever witnessed before in my life, save for Jordan.

My brother rolled his eyes at me, rightfully so probably... but by the end of the third quarter he had a lump in his throat (he's a Niners fan). I didn't say a word or gloat but when Romo through the 5th TD pass after the roll right throw to Glenn, he just left the room, and said "Unreal."

Bottom line, people that don't like the Cowboys are going to think that Tony is cocky. And ya know what? He is a lil cocky. So what. The man believes he is a winner and has shown nothing to prove otherwise. Montana was, even Troy was... his way was to be stoic and "above it" while Tony is all about feeling. He plays with tremendous emotion and is balanced by incredible poise.

#9 is a dangerous, dangerous QB. He can go thermonuclear at anytime.

The Cowboys have been grooming this kid for a long time -- three years with a clipboard. The Bengals put Carson Palmer on the side with a board for a year and he came out in Year 2 like he'd been around for a while. They have time to learn the speed of the pro game little by little and in practice.

I can't recall the last time a quarterback came from just about nowhere and made such a big difference across the team.

Cocky and arrogant? How about playing well and feeling great about it?

bears fan here.

From a fan of another team, I haven't seen the cocky side of him yet and I've watched all the games he's played in. I really like his story, kinda reminds me of the Kurt Warner story, you guys found a true talent and I look forward to meeting you guys in the playoffs.

How do you think Romo will stand up to the pressure we can bring on a QB, do you think he's seen anything like that yet?

Grossman started out for us like Romo is doing it for you, hopefully you don't have to deal w/ the ups and downs like we have until we play :)
