Tony Romo getting old...

Breaking a collarbone in his non throwing arm, and breaking his pinky isn't going to result in wear and tear...

It's not like he has concussions, knee problems, bad hip, neck injury e.t.c.

Does he take sacks that we wish he didn't? Sure, but he isn't on NFL jacked up, taking huge hits.

Punctured lung and cracked ribs?

Although they took different paths, and Young played on superior teams, the comparison has merit. Young was considered a guy who couldn't get it done - until he did. Young got that ring and it validated his amazing stats. Romo has the stats but needs that ring to "validate" his greatness to many. Personally, I think it's stupid. SBs are TEAM accomplishments regardless of how big of a role a QB plays on a team. Marino was a much better QB than Bradshaw but Bradshaw has 4 rings. Anyone who would take Bradshaw over Marino knows nothing about QBing or football in general. Romo plays at an extremely high level according to every stat used to measure a QB's performance. It's time for the rest of the team to play at a higher level.

All excellent points, good post....especially the last line.

I don't think those are wear and tear injuries either. When's the last time you've heard of a QB having a chronic rib or lung issue?

Exactly... People need to understand the word, "Chronic". Nothing about ANY of Romo's injuries have been chronic in nature.

Great post. I wouldn't say next year, just anytime starting now. If you find value in what our scouts are telling us is a potential future franchise QB we should pounce on that opportunity.

And it means nothing to Tony Romo and his stature here as the guy. It's an investment for the future. Not only are you getting the future QB in the pipeline to develop without needing to see the field early in his career but you're also giving him the chance to learn from one of the top QBs in the league in the process. It's a win/win situation to me.

Not only that but who knows, god forbid, when Tony might sustain a career ending injury, then what?

I dont think we put a premium on drafting one this year with Orton freshly signed but we really need to make this a priority.

you cannot make decisions based on fears like that.

just because he's played less games doesn't mean he will ever age.

My grandpa is 79 years old and has played 0 games in the NFL - does that mean he's not getting old?

Ya but the wear and tear on your body contributes a lot.

Well from a recovery stand point yes he is... The older you get the longer it takes your body to heal. Hopefully we fix the o-line asap and we don't have to be quite concerned.....

Young was actually plagued with injuries after his SB win. He had a monster year in 1998, but he was definitely past his prime from a physical standpoint.

The amount of mileage on a player is only relevant in their earlier years. For instance, Romo at 29 was much "younger" than Manning was a at 29. However, once guys start to hit their mid-30s EVERYONE begins to deteriorate simply due to the human condition.

A 35 year old who has started only one season is still 35 years old and doesnt have many good years left. I think it's foolish to assume Romo will keep playing at his current level for more than four more years or so. Some guys can, but more often than not QBs decline rapidly after 35.

Romo is in his final 2 seasons as a Cowboys starter.

So quick for him to be out of town aren't you?

I'd say he's got 5 seasons left, only if we keep bolstering the O-line.

Seems strange to compare Tony to those HOF QBs.

Git real!
Tony don't live in the same neighborhood as Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre. And my guess is, Super Bowlwise, he never will.
Sorry.
