I honestly believe Romo is the most underappreciated and over-criticized player in Cowboys history......maybe in NFL history.
Seems to be a big time local problem in the Dallas area fanbase and media that's not just limited to the Cowboys. Romo is unfairly criticized and probably the most undeservedly so in Cowboys history. He's not the only one though.
Dirk Nowitzki was always talked about negatively, both nationally and locally by many. He couldn't win the big one, he couldn't be "the guy" on a championship team, he was good, but not great. Of course, he put a weak team on his back and carried then to championship, then that all fell away. Was he a different player? No. He was the same guy. I will never forget how he was talked about before his great run even though now people will never admit they felt different before that run.
Yu Darvish is another guy that gets a lot of unfair criticism from fans and local media. In his top 3 Cy Young season he received criticism for not winning games when he gave up 1 run. He didn't have it. The Will to Win as Chuck Cooperstein put it. He lost 5 games that season where he gave up 1 run. He was also criticized for hurting his back at the end of a season. Not for being injury prone, but for "quitting" on his team. Probably a top 2-3 pitcher in Rangers history as far as how good he is and this is how he was talked about. He doesn't have a championship to fall back on, but that criticism will always stick out to me. Whatever the issue is, these local guys need to get it together.
