He's been great," Romo said, via The Dallas Morning News. "He's been there for me through my entire time. There wasn't anybody who stood up for me more last year. That meant as much as anything just the fact that he loved me and wanted good things for me.

"Things happen and that's what happens in life. But you remember the people that help you along the way and appreciate you and love on you and give you grace and try and do the things that you'd hopefully want to do for others. He exemplifies that stuff. I really wish people would get a chance to see his heart and the way he just loves this football team, loves his family and just loves the people that have done right by him.

"There's not a more loyal guy that you'll ever meet. He's always been that way and he's always going to be that way."

Reports that Garrett didn't really stand up for him.

Can't say that I blame Garrett because Dak was the first time we ever had proof that Garrett could win with any QB not named Romo.

Garrett took a 1-7 team to 5-3 with Brad Johnson, iirc.

There was a lot of flak flying around about Jerry not doing right by Tony. When it comes out the opposite was true, and to a substantial degree, the story shifts to 'what about Garrett?' Pretty quickly. In fact, I think I missed the apologies-to-Jerry stories if anybody wrote any.

I truly believe that he is probably like what Tony describes, however as fans we can only see how he's dragged this franchise down by trying to play GM.............had he tried it for a few years at first and figured out he was not going to excel at it and righted the ship by hiring a true GM I could have handled that but he didn't.....if he would just stop thinking he's the "I think I can, I think I can" choo choo train I (and many others) wouldn't despise the man so much.

I get why JJ wants to be the GM. It is his money and his team. The last couple of years everyone should be able to see that both Will and Stephen have a significant roll with how the team is run and how talent is either brought in or let go.

Oh, I definately see that Stephen and Will have a bigger role these days, that's evident in the improved drafts as well as making ridiculous trades stop.

That was a direct quote from his radio interview on Ben and Skin yesterday.
I hope they gave them credit vs those guys at DMN. That was the first exclusive interview and he specifically wanted them to have it.

Btw, Romo is saying what everyone else says that knows Jerry real well.
Very caring and extremely loyal...and the Cowboys are a huge passion for him.

Still doesn't make him a good GM:muttley:

I was shocked that Jerry didn't force Tony back in when he was healthy enough and wanted to compete again. I believe Jerry supported Romo to the end. Fortunately, there seems to be a shift in the power structure in Dallas.

That was a shot at JG.

Romo is probably perturbed that he came back in 2015 before his collar bone was truly healed for Garrett and the team's sake, but he wasn't given that chance last year when he was fully healthy.

I can see why he's upset, but I can certainly see why Garrett stuck with Dak.

They'll get past this one day.

I like the fact it remained a Garrett call and Jimmy Johnson said he would have made the same call given the play of Dak. You don't play musical QB in the middle of the season when things are going great.

True and had Dak been struggling and the team was not winning then Jason likely would have turned to Romo but given how well Dak was playing and the groove the team was in Garrett had to put team over individual, after all that is the difference of being the HC. Making the hard call

I suspect Dallas still would've lost in the playoffs last year...but to Atlanta instead of Green Bay.
So NFC title game, then out.

Moving on now, and looking forward to it.

Jerry also stood up for Bledsoe when Romo took over for him as well. I remember Jerry saying after the Giants game that Bledsoe gave them the best chance to win. Jerry just likes having the Veteran out there if he had his choice.

I think the Greenbay game was the deciding game for Garrett.
