"No contest" means he accepts the punishment, but he does not admit to doing anything wrong.

fair enough. but it also means he's waiving a trial which means he's not building a legal defense which undermines the thought that the letter was a purely legal move. FWIW, the letter is a defacto admission of guilt.

Well he certainly was preparing as hard as could while in Cabo before losing losing to the Giants a week later.

I don't understand or agree with vacations right before a playoff game but apparently it is completely common so I am not holding that only against him.

Exactly. We have all done things (intentional or not) that could have gone way differently.

I drink very little, have never been "drunk" but there have been a couple times when I've been more buzzed than I realized and if I'd been pulled over ....

One of the downsides of not being a drinker. When in a situation where partaking more than usual, it sneaks up on me and I have no engrained thoughts of self monitoring. I'm usually the designated driver for goodness sake.

While I appreciate him laying his issues out as eloquently as he did, and hope that he follows his commitment to getting well (and I hope he can find a way to do that and manage his pain issues), pleading no contest is not exactly taking accountability.

Mister Rogers taught me at a very young age that everyone makes mistakes.

He did not teach me how if you make them in the 2020 era your life is basically over. This one could go either way I guess.

People are hysterical in general….and I don’t mean anyone around here…they want to be forgiven if and when they make a mistake, but want to pile on when it’s someone else.

I realize what COULD have happened, but it didn’t. He doesn’t deserve to be cancelled (well, not because of this incident anyway). If he doesn’t have enough cash put aside to never have to work again if that’s what it comes to, he is getting some bad advice.

One of the issues we have here and in our country is if we don't agree on just one thing we can't be agreeable when we find common ground.

Honestly, if pain is the issue, being on Rx pain medication that is controlled by his MD is better than ETOH. ETOH is more unpredictable, lot of people take opioids and do so safely….hell, taking an NMDA antagonist (like dextromethorphan aka robitussin DM) with opioids can prevent development of tolerance and dose escalation, and lessen withdrawal (this has been studied actually, in humans)….people have vilified opioids wrongly, people thinking stopping them and starting ETOH don’t know about them and how they have been used by hundreds of millions of people for legit medical reasons without addiction, abuse or overdose.

I won't lie, sometimes I worry about Aikman too with those bloodshot eyes and "I've had too many shots" look on some of the games he calls. He took a good beating too in his career. Dak may be walking funny in old age too with all the things he's come back from lately.

I like Romo and wish him well on his road to recovery and a return to his broadcasting career.

But long apologies like that, especially when his job is likely to require a legal challenge, are just parroting what the lawyer told him to say.

I tend to agree here and feel that these style of statements are self serving generally. With that said, it all comes down to if he makes the changes in his lifestyle. If he does then this statement ends up being genuine and I surely hope it does. I always liked Romo and I think he is a decent and intelligent guy. I hope he has got the discipline required to improve himself here.

THAT'S what I was looking for. It's what I mentioned waaaaaay back when that once the BAC was known he and his team had no other choice but to pursue the route they went with. Just plead, pay the fine, and see what you can do to salvage the high-paying job.
