Unfortunately, the pain won't be going away.

Yeah, hopefully he can find some relief there without having to be overly reliant on pain meds or alcohol.

It was clear during his arrest and sobriety testing that his back still causes him a lot of problems.

There are hundreds, probably thousands, of former NFL players addicted to pain killers because of their injuries.

Especially those with back injuries.

Doctors give those things out like candy.

To me has nothing to do with a former player. He waited this long so his legal team could see what they're facing with trying to save his CBS job.

I have zero sympathy for anyone who drives while under the influence. None.

If he was sincere this would have been posted on day one right after it happened.

A long statement like this was carefully created by someone on his legal team and he signed it.

Nothing sincere about it. Just a public document showing he's listening to his lawyers.

I bolded the only thing I agree with. But I do believe that a player can take his time to put together his thoughts and then put out a statement without it being a legal release and insincere. I also believe that people can make mistakes, even bad ones, and try to rectify those. We'll see how that goes for him.

I completely agree with this and would never give a pass. You are putting peoples lives at risk and you are doing it for selfish reasons. Zip, none whatsoever.

I like Romo and wish him well on his road to recovery and a return to his broadcasting career.

But long apologies like that, especially when his job is likely to require a legal challenge, are just parroting what the lawyer told him to say.

Agreed. When I saw the post talking about owning mistakes and "true character" and all that, I thought, "He's a public figure. He has to 'own up' after he got busted." Call me cynical but I think if he could have lied to that cop and gotten away with it, he would have, The Lord be darned. Heats of the moment have a way of revealing character.

He owes an apology to his family (and himself), not to me. I personally find this public sword-falling unnecessary. No need to wear the scarlet A just because you are a publicly recognized figure for people who watch sports. My $0.02.

I do agree this doesn’t show sincerity I do think in cases like these your lawyered advise you to be quiet. And he has a lot on the line between trying to stay employed at CBS and not trying to incriminate himself. I think with these athletes and celebs they do just want you to wait and shut up. I wouldn’t have released a statement this late I just would’ve let it go. But people in here seem to be eating it up so I guess it was done for public opinion?

I believe that dropped field goal still haunts Tony. Tony is still a great golfer...so back pain my ***. His pain is mental.

This may sound like I don't have any sympathy for him but this is not true. The man has PTSD of sorts...

I also wonder if they got wind of his blood alcohol test results and saw no way out of it other than to fess up to what we all saw anyway. Can there be a way they cover that up so it's never revealed since he's now plead no contest?

Well this might explain some of his recent struggles in the CBS booth as well. I am just hoping Romo can find a solution to this and get his life back on track.

He sacrificed a ton, physically and mentally, for this franchise. Not surprised it led to struggles with painkillers and alcohol.
