Tony Romo's Value

I would have agreed with this, but now that Romo has played he has me shown something. Not that he will be great, but that he has the potential to be very good. Cutler on the other hand hasn't played a down yet so we still don't know what to expect out of him. Today, I stick with Romo. The only person I would trade with is to get Peyton Manning. Of course thats not happening. On that note, the one thing you have to remember about Manning is that he has a great trio of receivers in Wayne, Harrison, and Clark. Not all QBs in the league have those and his numbers are based off those receivers. Put him on another team and he wouldn't be quite so prolific, but the guy has incredible QB skills reading the defense and a hell of an arm and quick release.

We won't let Romo's contract get to that point. He'll get a sweet deal and I wouldn't doubt that it's the 1st thing we start figuring on after the season's over. Noway JJ lets Romo get away.

Just to add a little fuel to this fire :D .

It would really suck if he played well, got a fat contract in the off season and stunk up the joint the next year, which is a possibilty.

That would stink, but I just don't see how that would happen. A light would just have to go off in his head. He is not doing this on physical ability, although he has his fair share, and a quick release which makes up for any lack of velocity on his outs.

He has really shown a lot in the last two games. It is not like he has all day to sit back there and read the defense and make a good throw. Most guys can be successful under that scenario. He has done it under pressure and with a pretty poor oline.

As long as he remembers that preparation and hard work is what got him here, he will have a long and successful career!

Yeah, but that's a possibility with all players.

Yep you're right, that is a possibility. But then we aren't at the end of this season yet either, so we should know more about Romo then than we do now. That being said there are very few certainties in football so you never know for sure what's going to happen. However if you think you've got a keeper at that position then that's a risk you have to take. Because the worst case scenario still is we let him leave and he becomes a HOFer some where else.

Even worse, what if he becomes bored with football and decides to give the PGA a shot fulltime?

I'm happy with Romo's play. That doesn't mean I wouldn't try to upgrade the QB position.

And by 'upgrade' I mean get my hands on someone I read about in a draft magazine. The magazines all say Vince Young is going to be really good. He can run and stuff. I'm sure the picks will clear themselves up sooner or later. I just can't wait!

Romo's outplaying Phillip Rivers so far IMHO. I think that's a pretty fair gauge of his ability. Rivers has all of the rep of a Young or a Lienart or a Cutler, plus he's had a few years to learn the system, a good running game and an excellent defense.

The only thing I'm concerned about with Romo is in the unlikely event that Parcells retires in the offseason making Romo more difficult to re-sign. I'd imagine he's more loyal to Parcells than he is to the organization. He took a big chance with this last contract, and he deserves to have it really pay off for him.

I say no to all 3. Romo has proven more than all 3. He's proven he's a legitimate starter in the NFL. None of the others have yet.

Yep.

I was thinking about that as well. What is Parcells decides to walk and Jerry isnt sold on Romo yet? Also, how does Romo respond with competition because as of now, as Parcells says, he would have to be in the hurst to lose his job?

All you have to do is look at the Washington game. At their peak performance, could any of those QB's have done any more than Romo to win that game? As of today, no QB move is needed. In the off season we need a decent vet backup who isnt looking to only be a starter, like Charlie Batch, or someone in that mold.

As I was driving home yesterday listening to Galloway and Company, they had Babe Laufenberg (who has always been a Romo Supporter) and he had some very interesting questions regarding Romo's value.

First question was, Jeff Fisher is on the phone and wants to do a straight up trade Tony Romo for Vince Young, do you do it?

Second question, Denny Green is on the phone and wants to do a straight up trade Tony Romo for Matt Leinhart, do you do it?

Jay Cutler for Tony Romo?

What say you?

Personally, the only one I give any thought too is Cutler.

I wouldn't trade with any of them for the simple fact that they all have contracts that can wreck a salary cap and their production/salary ratio is average-decent:high. Romo's production/salary ratio is more like decent:low.

I'm almost sure he's the lowest paid starter in the league. No, Bruce Gradkowski might be making less...

Yep.

That's where I'm at with all this also.

No way...

After seeing the "QB's since Aikman" graphic every game and now potentially finding the QB of the future, there's no way in hades I'd trade him.

No way.
