Just seen that Tiger Woods tested his back playing 9 holes. Said he is pain free and will play in the PGA Championship.

So will all the pundits who said Tony is done retract now....

Well, we still need to see if Tiger plays well, and if Tony can take a hit.
But couldn't resist posting this. But you get my point.

Apples and oranges.

Golf places an incredibly violent torque on the back. Much more so than throwing a football.

But the problem with backs is, you don't hurt it generally doing what you think will hurt it. It's things like sleeping wrong or getting out of a chair in an awkward position that makes the muscles spasm.

It's been a long, tedious comeback for both Tony and Tiger. Here's hoping both of them find their return to form as good as new.

The rehab process for such injuries are endless and painful. Folks that expect quick results are kidding themselves. It takes time.

True and it has been 3 months since Tigers surgery and it has been 7 months since Romo. Personally I think Tiger is pushing it too much just my opinion

When's the last time you saw a guy get blind sided on the tee box?

I don't think the comparison is easily dismissed because of torque. There are certainly things Tony will experience that no golfer ever will.

Tony's issue is almost purely about torque. A hit won't be the problem as much as one of his patented spins out of the pocket, or a throw from an awkward position.

In fact, most of the issue will be just from sitting in a chair too long or sleeping wrong. Muscles spasm over the smallest things. Back problems are strange.

Trust me, I know too much about these things.

I've thought for awhile that Tiger probably still has a couple of majors left in him, but I'm starting to doubt even that. It's not just his back, it's his knee, his neck, his Achilles, his elbow....he's showing all the signs of someone whose body is just wearing out from all that violent torque practically since he was still in diapers.

With Tony, I have no freaking clue. I've worked with clients who've had surgeries for back/disc problems for 25 years now, and it seems to be pretty random and unpredictable on which ones come out with improvement in symptoms, and which ones don't. I won't be surprised if he has 2-3 good years left in him, and I won't be surprised if he just can't do it for more than a handful of games per year starting now.

The Musers were talking this morning on the Ticket about if the over/under on games he plays this year were set at 11, which would you take. I'd bet the over but not with much confidence.

So you know your experience? One that doesn't include professional football?

Sneezing, putting a napkin on a table (that happened to me once), etc.

Was your point that you don't understand the difference between golf and football, let alone one man's injury to another?

If so, point taken.

That's what happens to me. I can be fine for months and then if I just turn the wrong way it goes out. Last January It went into my leg and I could barely walk. You just don't know with backs.

I know that all too well. Moved a piece of furniture once, and was fine, 2 months later, moved an empty trash can, was sitting at my desk at work, and moved it from where the cleaning people had it in a different spot. Back started hurting, just from sitting down, leaning over and strectched a bit to grab it. Hurt for a week.
