No, let's just dump you from the Zone. Kidding.
But don't get carried away.
I proposed showcasing RW and Barber for possible future trades, that's all.
Nothing remotely akin to your hysterical response and spittin' spell.
Take a midol or a Jack Daniel, whichever is your preference and call back in the morning.
its about being realistic and understanding how a team in the NFL operates. Roy Williams just signed a contract. he is owed 9 mill next year regardless of him being on our team or not. that doesn't bode well for us getting rid of him.
the first question I always ask before I say dump anyone or trade anyone, is who is going to replace him. I don't care about pie in the sky type of scenarios, lets trade RW for a 2nd and a 4th and in the draft get player x and player y like half the people do on the board sometime.
or lets trade RW to denver for brandon marshall or what ever.
if you are going to trade RW, then you have to have his replacement. Crayton? it didn't work so well last year when he moved to starting lineup. Hurd? Ogltree? are you so sure either of those are ready? draft? lets take someone first and then the draft is a gamble. I didn't like RW trade day 1. IMO he wasn't a top 20 Wr in the league and you don't give up a 1st and a 3rd in this day and age of NFL.
but the trade is done. he got a new deal and he is on the books. Lets see what can be done in the current situation. he did take some attention and allowed others to get open. he still demanded respect. He dropped too many passes and ran the wrong routes for my taste. and right now, based on this performance he won't demand anything but a 4th round pick. plus the money we have to pay for him and we have not his replacement on the team.
now onto barber. he was the leading rusher on the team. he is our power runner. two years ago everyone wanted julius gone and wanted barber to start. once barber started, he wasn't as effective. now everyone wants Tashard to start and IMO once he starts, he won't be as effective. so getting rid of barber, weakens the position and changes our draft strategy.
why create a need when there isn't a need for one.
so lets say barber becomes the 3rd back on the team. with all the injuries suffered at the position and with Jones being injury prone, there is need to be 3 deep. again, what do you expect to get back for an slightly above average RB, when there is only 5 teams in the league that need a RB and its been proven you can get one in the 3rd or 4th round for a much lower price.
plus, I like the fact that both of these guys have a chip on their shoulder and need to come in and prove. if the trend continues, then get rid of them. until then there is no need to dump anyone for any reason unless we have in our hands their replacement at hand and we are
sure they are as good or better than what we are getting rid of.
