Toomer: Romo better than Eli

Both...that is why it's a team game.

Eli did not do both.

It is a team game. And Eli lead his TEAM to two championships. Romo has led his team to one playoff victory.

These are not trivial differences.

And that's what won them the game, right?

So every time Romo throws two TDs and doesn't turn over the ball, Dallas wins, right? Or guys like you say Romo did everything he could to win the game, but the defense/special teams/whatever cost them? Several members here would be bashing him for the bad passes that (Eli threw that) should have been interceptions.

I don't discount Eli playing his role and doing it well enough overall in the playoffs, but that's all it is, one role among many others that made the Giants Super Bowl champions.

When, and only when, people can reach agreement on that can a true comparison of the QBs be made. Toomer, at least, seems to understand that.

I'm sorry, but it is just flat out moronic to call a 100.1 Passer Rating over those two post seasons "playing a role"

Yes, play the "but it could have been a pick" game.

Over and over I hear about how Eli got lucky.

Luck might get you a win here or there.

It does not get you two superbowl rings

I don't understand.

Samuel's catches the ball - game over
Newman catches the ball - game over
49ers catch the ball (or fumbled punt) - game over

In a three point league if you don't think good fortune can get you rings you're being kidding yourself. Ask the Steelers.

Play it with Romo the same way. Tony takes a ton of chances, many of which could turn out horribly wrong but didn't. Are you telling me that Eli simply got all the breaks and Tony none of them?

Tony's gunslinging has hurt us in the past and much like some of his picks have been very high profile, Eii's fortune has been too. I will agree this is a disingenuous argument as we will never know but...

I think the best way to answer Eli's success is pointing to the fact the Giant's only gave up an average of 14 points in their playoff runs. I am not dismissing his play despite his good fortune, he made some clutch throws, but that kind of defensive play will win you a lot of games.

Ta hell with rings. Romo has Eli beat in every statistical category. Thats what matters...now a days.

Are they playing & getting paid for statistics or to win a ring? I guess we should do away with the Superbowl:confused:

I'll take Romo everyday and twice on Sunday's over Eli but I have to give Eli his due. He won two SBs basically playing on the road. That's a little tough.

If the two are on my team Romo starts if healthy. I would not hesitate to yank Romo for Eli though if warranted.

Romo has had injuries that would want most QB's to just quit the game! I doubt that Eli would have played through broken ribs and a punctured lung, or a broken collar bone, or a baseball sized swollen hand.
Eli suffered a separated throwing shoulder against the Cowboys in week 1 of 2007. He missed one practice.

Romo is one tough Son of a Gun. You make Eli play behind the Cowboy Oline that some of these poster complain about and he's not winning anything!
According to Pro Football Focus, Eli was the most pressured and hit QB in the NFL this season.

5Stars;4612929 said:
Then, you give Eli the Cowboys defense that they have had the past few years, and Eli does not win crap!
The Cowboys' D gave up 3.3 less points per game the Giants did in 2011 and 1.6 less points per game in 2007.

They're both good QBs I'll take Romo because he's a Cowboy and I do think he plays the position better than Eli and that bears out statistically. But Eli's got rings him and more specifically his team have stepped it up when it matters and gotten it done. I remember watching the SF game last year and I was like this is one of the most courageous performances by a QB ever Eli kept getting destroyed and right back up....then I remembered that's what Romo has to deal with every freaking game.

Give me Romo.

The knock on Romo is not his regular season success it is his playoff success.

How did the Giants D do in the playoffs in both of Eli's playoff runs? How about in 2011 the NY D held Ryan to 0 points, Rodgers to 13 points (meaningful, 7 more in garbage time), and both Smith and Brady to 17 points.

In the 2007 run the NY D held the opposing offenses to 14, 17, 20 and 14 points.

NY playoff D is not the same as NY regular season D. Not knocking Eli here, but if you could guarantee me in 8 playoff games my defense will not allow more than 20 meaningful points (an average of 14 points per game) I would like my chances with QBs much inferior to Tony Romo when it comes to winning playoff games.

How hot a team gets matters. It matters a lot. Dallas has played like one of the best teams in the NFC in stretches in recent years. It just happens to have been in the middle of the season.

Doing it at the end of the season isn't luck, and I"m not minimizing its importance. It's a skill. And the Giants do it better than anybody else. In part, because they've done it before. In part, because their pass rush lets them match up well with other effective passing teams. In part because their QB has been able to play really clutch football in the post season during their two runs.

The thing is, Romo's been able to elevate his game, too. It's other areas of our team that have let us down. Our pass defense---because we're relying on older players. Our OL--it absolutely tanked our 'run' in 2009. Our starters are capable, but our depth has been questionable, that that's the sort of thing that bites you later in the season.

We're very lucky to have exceptional QB play, because it does make it easier to solve the other problems where personnel resources are more readily available. CB and OG problems are solvable, at least. I know people don't like the OL solutions, but even a modertate upgrade will help. Our secondary *has* to have been improved.

I just realized than in NYs latest title run their defense only allowed 3 meaningful points in the 4th QTR throughout the playoffs and Super Bowl run. The NY D did allow a TD to Rodgers in garbage time with a few minutes remaining and the game decided.

I grew up in the 90s and seen enough of Troy Aikman. I didn't say he was overrated as a player. I said COWBOYS FANS overrate him. Emmitt Smith made that offense. Not Troy Aikman. Troy was top 5 in passing yards once in his career. Only 4 times in the top 10.

This is a silly statement.. troy Aikman could have broking every passing record there was, he was that accurate.. Again stop with stats.. he had such a well balanced offense, he didnt need to throw the ball 40 times a game.. Also Aikman was fine with not having great stats because he was a leader and cared about WINNING... It drives me nuts when people look at Aikmans stats and have NO clue about how good he was and how much better numbers he could have had..Aikman was a great great QB, enough of stats and numbers please. I watched the man take every snap in his career....He was great... Numbers to him were not important

There is no way on planet earth that he is overrated.. NONE... It just plain wrong.. if anything the man is underrated

Perfect example. I had some idiot Giant fan tell me Phil Simms was better because he had just as many TD as Aikman.. get a clue please... Aikman did not need to throw 4 TD's a game.. he had the most well balanced offense in the past 15 years... get a clue people

FACTS! People cant handle actual facts here.

I'm not sure that's true. I have seen a lot of people blame the Cowboys' lack of success this season on their defense, even though it was better than the Giants'.
