Top 10 at nearly every position.

I was daydreaming and just thought about how many people on our team would you consider top 10 in the league at their position and came to a realization.

Nearly EVERY player on our team could be considered top 10 on our team aside from maybe 1 or 2, yet there is one specific position of the team where you'd have a hard time calling top 10 on each players name.

What area is that?

No one on the offensive line, or either defensive ends.

And . . . you know, games are won in the trenches.

and no one in the secondary (you could make a case for Jenkins) or either ILB.

I dont think there is 10 better Guards than Davis, 10 better centers than Gurode, and probably not 10 better RT's than Columbo.

LT, LG, FS, SS, LDE, RDE, K, FB are certainly not top 10 IMO.

One could also make an argument that we're not top 10 at RG, RT, ILB, and RB (individually, not as a group).

We have a solid starting roster, but we certainly have areas to improve on....and some areas one could consider "holes".

I think Jenkins is in the top 5.

I'd say Jenkins is there. He may be a push at the latter part of it, but based on last year I'd think he is.

My list of guys out of our projected starters that can be considered top 10 at their position:

Romo
Witten
Gurode
Davis
Austin
Ware
Ratliff

You could make arguments for Spencer and Jenkins I think.

Jenkins and Newman are potentially top 10.

That's right, even though most ignoramuses out there think Newman is a liability....he's not. He's a damn good football player.

He plays football?

DE in a 3-4 isn't a glamorous position, but both of them are very good for what they need to do.

Hard to compare them to the rest of the DEs in the league, but they are both very effective in our schemes.

Top 10 kickoff specialist! Championship!

I'm gonna put my vote in for McBriar as he, often, goes unmentioned.

Yeah we have players that fit what we do.

Like Felix Jones. He may not be a top 10 back but I guarantee none of us would trade away Felix for some of those top 10 backs.

Jenkins is easily top 10 based off last season. The only thing holding him out of the top 3, for me, is the game against the Chargers when those receivers just out-battled him for the ball a few times.

But that being said he was always in position.

Well lets see:

QB: Romo
FB: Deon
RB: Felix
WR: Miles
TE: Witten

T: None
G: None (although believe it or not, Koiser is the closest)
C: None

DE (3-4): Igor
NT: Ratliff
OLB(3-4): Ware & Spencer
MLB (3-4): Keith & Bradie

CB: Mike Jenkins and Newman when he's on
FS: None
SS: None

KR: None
K: None
P: McBriar

So out of 18 possible slots, we have 10 with top 10 players, doubling up in some of the positions.

Although we are helped a little bit by the fact that we run a 3-4, when it comes to defensive rankings.

As much as it pains me to disagree, I think the choices I've bolded range from debatable to "Whaaaaaat?".

I LOVE Brooking, but I don't think he's a top 10 LB at this point. I'm not sure there are 10 guys I'd rather have playing ILB for us....but as far as performance, he's not in there IMO.

The DE spot, especially for a 3-4, is a tough position to gauge. However, there are a lot of teams running the 3-4 now, and I'm not even sure the Igor is the best DE on our own team.

James is a good football player, but belongs nowhere on that list.

With the wealth of talent at the RB position in the NFL right now, it truly takes a remarkable player to crack the top 10 at RB. Felix has the talent to be there, but I'm not so sure he's earned that yet.

...and at the Guard position, I like Kosier, but I still think Davis is a more dominant player despite his brief periods of weak play.

I'm not even going to address Anderson.
