Top 100 players

It has a really weird voting method. I have to pick between two random players. Like I just got John Elway vs Jim Ringo. Who the hell is Jim Ringo?

And just to let you know, Bob Hayes is beating Alan Faneca just 53% of the time.

well that would be an easy pick if you have never heard of someone eh ?

He's a Hall of Fame center for the Lombardi Packers and Eagles.

Elway may be better one the merits, but one thing about fan selections of 'greatest players' is that they don't have a long memory. The 'greatest' players in the history of the world almost always happen to be those who were in the game recently because that's who a current generation of fans saw and remembered.

Of course, there are always a few old goats like me sitting in their rocking chairs and talking about how the young generation doesn't give the old one its due............

You're absolutely right. I know some of the historical greats, but I was born in 81, it's kind of hard for me to know about a guy who played in 1953.

They should either have people who know all the players vote, or do it by decade.

Thats cool, I sat for a bit and voted, Aikman came up twice and Emmitt twice. Lee Roy jordan, Jackie Smith, Tony Dorsett, Mel Renfro and Larry Allen came up.

Probably a few others I missed. Hated voting for any skins, eagirls of jints, but on occasion had to.

Pretty cool, can sit there and while a way an afternoon if you have the patience and time.

It's called a conjoint study -- by picking the better of two players, it will ultimately come up with a ranking, based on all of these head-to-head comparisons. And a true conjoint is not exactly random, it gets "smarter" after awhile and starts focusing on the more relevant comparisons, based on how people have been responding. I'm a big fan of conjoint, others aren't. I like the way it simplifies things and makes decision making easier for respondents, either this guy or that guy. After enough data is collected, you get some really solid rankings...

...unless you get enough guys voting for Tony G over Jerry Rice. :laugh2:

Man, that's difficult. I of course assumed I'd just pick Cowboys every time they came up, but I don't think I can bring myself to choose Rayfield Wright over Bronko Nagurski.

And I don't want to vote for any Commanders, but when Turk Edwards comes up against Adam Viniateri, what am I supposed to do? I just held my nose and thought of Hostile and voted against the kicker.

actually with a huge # of people voting the method is very sound

I voted for the the Cowboy no matter who he was up against.

Me too. Who cares that Shante Carver was much worse than Deacon Jones

I was playing with that for about 5 minutes and got Sonny Jurgensen at least 10 times as a choice.

Carver is credited with 11.5 career sacks

Deacon Jones is credited with 0 career sacks

Carver > Jones
