Top 25 Plays In Dallas Cowboys History

Nice! I was there for #25. I would swap #2 and #1 though. The Hail Mary is the Holy Grail of Cowboys plays. Danny White's comeback against Atlanta in the playoffs with the TD to Pearson should be in here somewhere. As should Hollywood Henderson's kickoff return for a TD. I'm sure there's more that could be included.

RW hit/FF on Jacobs at the goal line could be in there

I think there are some that could be disputed, but I don't know if they're going by impact, excitement, athleticism, or a combination of those and other things. Maybe not everyone's perfect list, but at least there's nothing to get mad about.

Like #25.... it wasn't even a TD play. There are literally 100's of other plays throughout team history that are more worthy of making this list than that play. Emmitt's separated shoulder game is a perfect example.

Reeks of recency bias which I’m sure the folks who have some years on me are thinking as well.

The Irvin TD in SB27 wasn’t as big as the fumble for a TD. Game changer.

The Harper play was huge, and I was waiting for them to leave it out, but number one?

I know it's a negative play and hurt Dallas' chances of winning super bowl XIII, but the Jackie Smith play was pretty iconic. So much so that some people are still upset about it 47 years later. I remember the play like it was yesterday..... Staubach's reaction is etched into my memory.

Super bowls X and XIII are the reasons Pittsburgh is the team I hate the most, and that will NEVER change. That and the fact that one of my friends down the street was a Steelers fan who loved to gloat. I have never wanted to punch someone in the face as much I wanted to punch him... I never went through with it, but I certainly thought about it.

I almost made a comment that someone should do a list of iconic plays that involved the Cowboys, positive or negative. That one would make it, Leon Lett's plays would make it, Donovan McNabb's 3 minute dance behind the LOS before completing a bomb would be there too.

One more that could have made it was the Dak last second pass to Beasley against the Giants in the Meadowlands. The game meant nothing but it's probably the best last minute victory the team's had in recent years.

You can't talk about last minute wins without bringing up week 16 in 1979 against Washington.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_Dallas_Cowboys_season

From Wikipedia:

"The Cowboys stood 75 yards away from an NFC Eastern Division title. Roger Staubach went back to work like he had done so many times in his career. He drove the Cowboys down the field in only seven plays. During the drive he connected with Tony Hill for 20 yards, then to Preston Pearson for 22 yards. With 1:01 left in the game Staubach went back to Preston Pearson for a 25-yard gain to the Commanders' 8-yard line. From there Staubach lofted a pass into the end zone that Tony Hill came down with.

The Cowboys won the game 35–34 over the Commanders and also won their 11th Eastern title in the team's 20-year history. The win also gave the Cowboys a week off and home field advantage in the playoffs. With the win it also knocked the Commanders out of the playoffs."

In March 1980, less than 3 months after that game, Roger broke my heart and retired.....

I'm pretty sure that was #20 on the list.

AHHH !! Yep, you're right. Right after the game ended my brother and I drove out to Texas stadium in hopes of getting to meet some of the players. Back then the players parked their personal vehicles in an area that had public access, so it was easy to meet them after games. I remember meeting Harvey Martin, but can't remember who else was with him.

That’s a cool recap of the drive. I know you didn’t put it in there , but calling them the Commanders.

Some of those really old video clips didn't have any commentary, which was weird. I would add the play of Romo against the 49'ers where he passes the ball for 77 yards to Jesse Holley to set up a game winning FG in OT. All the while, Romo had broken ribs and a collapsed lung!!
Can't say enough how much Alvin Harper contributed to those Super Bowl teams!! Can Pickett be our Harper type WR this season? Let's hope!!

Harvey Martin is good enough. I was a kid watching that game with my friend. That TD pass at the end is etched in my brain.
