Top 25 Plays In Dallas Cowboys History

I am happy #8 (video marks 6:38 - 7:26) made the list, although it was ranked too high in comparison to some of the other choices in my opinion. However, I am singling it out for another reason.

Sometimes, Tony Romo discussion centers on the non-refutable fact the 2007 Dallas team fielded 13 pro bowlers, five of which were named as all-pros. What is usually missing from that specific fact-checking was the TOO often tendency of some of his teammates committing critical gaffes at inopportune moments during games.

Occasionally, Andre Gurode/Romo snaps were adventures in mayhem, just like that particular play. Sure, criticize Romo's mistakes. Most are warranted but forgetting or flat out being ignorant of the errors demonstrated by some of those 13 pro bowlers during that special season (similar to that video example), has always been disingenuous as well.

Romo threw interceptions. Sometimes, they were drive killers. Sometimes, they determined the outcomes of games. Yet, many times he tried performing like SUPERMAN while attempting to offset the shortcomings of his teammates' play.

Some honorable mentions.

Staubach to Pearson on 4th and 17 to the right sideline a few plays before the Hail Mary. Game over if they don't convert.

Quincy Carter to Antonio Bryant for 25 yards to the left sideline. I understand why it wasn't listed. But I won't forget it. The Giants kicked the FG on 2nd down with 14 seconds on the clock. They did that just in case of a fumbled snap. I don't think any team ever did that again.

You can't talk about last minute wins without bringing up week 16 in 1979 against Washington.

From Wikipedia:

"The Cowboys stood 75 yards away from an NFC Eastern Division title. Roger Staubach went back to work like he had done so many times in his career. He drove the Cowboys down the field in only seven plays. During the drive he connected with Tony Hill for 20 yards, then to Preston Pearson for 22 yards. With 1:01 left in the game Staubach went back to Preston Pearson for a 25-yard gain to the Commanders' 8-yard line. From there Staubach lofted a pass into the end zone that Tony Hill came down with.

The Cowboys won the game 35–34 over the Commanders and also won their 11th Eastern title in the team's 20-year history. The win also gave the Cowboys a week off and home field advantage in the playoffs. With the win it also knocked the Commanders out of the playoffs."

In March 1980, less than 3 months after that game, Roger broke my heart and retired.....
I remember that game. It was great.
I was dating my future wife at the time. We were at her moms house, and was going out to dinner.
But I was watching the game with her her 2 younger brothers. Told her we needed to wait after the game was over. It took precedence.

Luckily, she understood, and knew then, Cowboys games was a must.
Her brothers (we were in Ohio), and her dad, being from Texas, she knew about the Cowboys and our fandom.

That’s a cool recap of the drive. I know you didn’t put it in there , but calling them the Commanders.
I was going to say something about that but felt it was better left alone. I'm not a fan of erasing history and pretending that it never happened, but such is the times we live in now.

I'm not sure that moniker would make it through the censor anymore.

It may never be considered so, but the very first pass that Bob Hayes caught from Don Meredith in game #1 of his rookie season forever changed the game of football.

The first three receptions of his career were all 40 or more yards and two of them were TD's.

Bob Hayes was the inspiration for zone coverage and his first catch ushered in an era.

Last season of all yrs in the blink of an eye back to back series against TB who was playing for a division title Jourdan Lewis had an impossible interception in the end zone taking the ball away from the receiver as they fell to the ground next series last of the game the RB on a busted play catches a swing pass is turning up field as he’s tackled almost lying on his back DaRon Bland stripped the ball right out his arms ….holy smokes Commisioner get me Bat Woman on the phone two robberies in Gotham in the most amazing plays ….
