Been watching this team for a while, like 38 years and was thinking about the CB's we've had over that time and decided to list my top 5. I know this is arguable but I guess that's what its for. Here's my top 5, what would yours be.....

#1 Deion Sanders- Never was a big Deion fan but have to give credit where credit is due. QB's were terrified of Deion.

#2 Everson Walls- The guy wasn't fast but he played like it. He had great hands and didn't get shaken when beaten.

#3 Kevin "Pup" Smith- My favorite on the list and very underrated. All he done was shut down Jerry Rice..Nuff Said.

#4 Dennis Thurman- Thurman was a childhood favorite player. Made a lot of int's. Made a lot of plays in general.

#5 Terrance Newman- Newman was fast and athletic and a good corner for the Cowboys. Coaching failed him in the end.

Ok, I know there are a few that could be on this list but remember this is the last 30 years. Hopefully Claiborn bumps someone off but I won't hold my breath...........

Mel Renfro was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first ten seasons in the league, including five All-Pro selections in 1964, 1965, 1969, 1971 and 1973. He was named the defensive MVP of the 1971 Pro Bowl.

Was Newman really that good? His technique and ability to play the ball in the air never seemed that good to me.

Good list. I remember watching the games with my wife during the Deion years. She would comment Deion didn't do anything the entire game and is not earning all the money they are paying him. I would tell her he is earning every penny.because just by being there he is shutting down half the field. At first I did not like the guy either but he was just SO good I couldn't help but like him.

The pre-injury Kevin Smith was very underrated. You never heard his name during the game because they didn't throw at him.

Renfro has to be high up there, challenging Deion for the top spot. And I'd move Thurman ahead of Smith. Never thought that highly of Smith, but maybe I expected too much. There was a period of time when Larry Brown was the better of those two starting corners (not talking about the Super Bowl vs. Pittsburgh, either, when Brown was just in the right place at the right time).

QB's didn't throw his way at the beginning of his stay in Dallas that is true. I can't put a player who only played for us 5 years #1 on the list. Especially once he got hurt, he wasn't a shutdown CB any more. Don't forget the way his playing days in Dallas ended.

All guys had great careers and made our D solid when playing.

I was hoping I'd have the pleasure of this joke. Well played sir. I guess this picture of Deion will have to suffice.

I dont think TNEW was that good. He was a very good athlete but a medicore CB. Had alot of trouble playing the deep ball and lacked the feel for the game.

That turf toe thing was ridiculous. I seem to remember that he missed a ton of games because of that... It didn't seem to ever want to go away.

Once the player got hurt he played bad. LOL .... What a great reason you found to say Sanders wasnt a great CB who played for Dallas.
Oh wait another one: He did not play long enough for Dallas to qualify for being a great CB.

May i argue that your post is not very "great" because you havent been writing in this forum long enough ?

What a joke ....

I've seen them all... Mel Renfro was SERIOUSLY good....

Many good ones since then, but Renfro was a flat out stud... no disrespect to the rest but I would take him ahead of any of them. He came to play every week... and he dominated...
