The Freebird solo was performed by Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, and yes, that is a great solo, probably the longest great sustained solo in rock history
Either that one of the live version of Ramblin Man by the Allman Brothers.

So, who likes Jeff Beck's solo at the end of "People Get Ready"

And has anyone heard Gary Moore's "Still Got the Blues" solos?

:)

Another good one is Mike Oldfield's solo in "Moonlight Shadow"

And obviously, no great guitar solo list is complete without Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode"

I've heard the Beck one, not the Gary Moore one.

Listen to the last of the three grouped solos...there's simply no way Harrison plays that line...it's simply out of his reach...

Harrison also has that high treble on his guitar, whereas McCartney's sound was much thicker...And the style of the lines fits with a solo song like "Maybe I'm Amazed" It's the same type of playing.

I've seen McCartney do that live a few times..and he plays that last line as well.

I'll look for a link but I'll bet body parts that it's Harrison, McCartney, Lennon...

McCartney was a much better guitarist than Harrison who's playing on those solos is very stiff and practiced. Lennon was a buzzsaw on those solos, he was a pretty awful guitar player BUT he was playing with emotion...so was McCartney.
Here's a link with some quotes from Geoff Emerick.

I love that solo. I don't like Rod Stewart at all, but he and Jeff Beck do a great cover of that song.

I remember when I was 12 and first discovered that Chuck Berry was a black guitarist. Suddenly, that whole bit from "Back to the Future" made so much sense :lmao2:

A few more great guitar moments from Neil Young: Cortez The Killer- Young just winds his guitar lines through the lazy rhythms. I get into a trance when I hear this; Down By The River- Another solo that benefits from a great rhythm part. Danny Whitten was a great rhythm guitar player.

Yeah..they should have shut off Rod Stewarts microphone and just let Jeff Beck play.

Oh man, I like Neil Young. Cinamon Girl, Southern Cross.

I also want to mention Jerry Garcia for Truckin.

Some singer guitarists that I enjoy are Dan Fogelberg, Kenny Loggins, and Gordon Lightfoot. "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is a song I just really enjoy.

My only problem with that cover, is that there is a slight '80s sheen to the production, if you know what I mean. It all sounds a bit too slick, especially the drums.

Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian legend. The Rheostatics (who I mentioned in another thread) do a great cover of The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald. As for Jerry Garcia, I love his soloing in Help On The Way/Slipknot.

Without any categories, time periods, or styles, it's like asking to post the top 5 football players regardless of position. LOL But I have to say Randy's live Suicide Solution solo has to be up there.:fogeys:

Three Days by Jane's Addiction also has a killer solo. I can't stand Dave Navarro these days, but he did have his moments with Jane's.
