More negative scouting comes into play by teams with those selections. Everyone is looking for the perfect prospect that high in a draft, so it's easy to talk yourself out of any player, especially at the quarterback position. They all have flaws. And even when you find the perfect prospect ... you never know.

John Elway is a Hall of Fame quarterback. He had it all coming out of Stanford -- physically, mentally with every intangible. He was benched twice in his rookie season with the Denver Broncos before becoming the draft prototype for his position.

Troy Aikman is a Hall of Fame quarterback. He had it all coming out of UCLA -- physically, mentally, intangibles... He went 0-11 in his rookie season with the Cowboys and no one in Dallas was phoning Canton at that point to have his bust commissioned.

Which brings us to the 2016 draft. Is quarterback the primary need of the Cowboys this offseason? No. Is it the primary need for the future of the franchise? Yes. There are two quarterback prospects that figure to wind up near the top of the draft board -- Jared Goff of Cal and Paxton Lynch of Memphis
