What are the top five things will you be looking for when you watch Dallas play Indianapolis on Thursday night? Here's mine:

1. Julius Jones' "instincts." Will Julius look like the same back that gave us all hope a few years ago? Granted, the offensive line just now got all of its starters back and could be a little rusty. However, that should not change Julius' decision-making and burst through the hole.

2. Ken Hamlin's leadership. There's been a lot of praise thrown Hamlin's way by Coach Phillips so far in camp. I want to see it on display.

3. Nick Folk. If this kid can perform as well in preseason as he has in camp, I think he may take the job right out from under Gramatica. I just hope we see a pressure situation that will allow for a true test of the kid's nerves.

4. Spears and Canty. I don't expect that they'll reveal much of their defensive attack in the preseason, both for the sake of avoiding injury and keeping some things under wraps for the regular season. However, that shouldn't stop us from being able to see how well our two defensive ends are adapting to their new roles.

5. The fullbacks. This position would appear to be the most open competition on the team. Each player presents something interesting. Their peformances both with the offense and on special teams could all be make-or-break moments for them.

I'd like to add seeing how Anthony Henry plays. We know Newman will play well. But Henry will be matched up against either Harrison, Wayne, or Gonzalez. Big test.

I'm also curious to see our young tackles take on Freeny and Mathis. On second thought....that makes me nervous. Poor Romo could get killed.

The starters might not be out there long enough for us to determine much in the first preseason game. I hope the first drives on offense and defense are successful, i.e., TD on offense and three and out on defense (or at least a forced punt after a first down). That would be impressive against the starting lineup of the defending champs.

Actually Grammatica did well for us.

He kicked a pressure packed long FG vs the Giants.

He also nailed a 50 yarder in our playoff game vs the Seahawks.

I'd like to see how the linebacker position is playing out. Ellis is the obvious situation, but what about Carp? Or Burnett? Or even Bradie? Are either close to unseating him? And how will Spencer look in his first competitive action? We could see the beginning of that against the Colts.

Plus, with the Colts injury issues, I bet Dungy plays it closer to the vest. That means the younger guys get to the field earlier and more often. Bad news for TV ratings, good news for the diehards.

That may be the case, but I can't be the only one that feels something bad is going to happen every time he sets up to kick.

Once a Cowboys fan, always a hater of kickers.

We haven't had an elite kicker in terms of consistency in club history (Eddie Murray at the tail end of his career doesn't count).

When it comes to the kicking game, there are always two things you can be sure of as a Cowboys fan:

1.) Our kicker will miss a lot of important kicks, no matter how good people say he is.

2.) Our opponent's kicker will make 99% of his kicks, including the most important ones (Nick *****' Novak knocked one in to beat us last year -- case in point).

I hate everything about the kicking game. That is a direct result of my experiences as a Cowboys fan. Except when we play the Giants. Usually works out pretty well against them. Cortez, Cundiff and now Gramatica all made Coughlin their personal water boy.

I feel bad every time any kicker sets up for a kick. Gamatica is actually one that I can slighty have faith in.

I don't think this will show to much as the defense will work as a unit and what you will see will be limited. The pass rush alone will help Henry and we will only see the basics.

I want to see Davis and the rest of the oline during running plays. I'm not looking for big running plays. I'm looking for our oline to explode the defensive line. These guys are big, strong, and a good first step. I can't wait to see what happens when you release that much kinetic energy. While these guys don't (at least yet) have the skill of the Cowboys line of the 90s, they are bigger. If they really start to gel, we could be in for a show next season if we land a really good running back. (providing Adams remains, or a a real LT develops. (McQuistan/Free) Of course Free as run blocking issues from what I hear.

This game will be limited for sure, in fact wade phillips said he might play the whole game in the dime defense to work on 3rd down and passing situations.

So that should be interesting if we play most of the game in the dime.

I want to see the offense run a ball control drive.

I hear alot of things about streching the field and going deep, but i want to see the offense be able to eat the clock and just slowly march down the field. I want to see a 6-8 minute drive, whether it be the first team, second, whatever. I want to see them do a ball control drive.
