CP said stopping the run and affecting the QB are the two most important things for a defense. One way to affect the the QB is pressure from the edge. Production is one of several important things used to evaluate draft prospects. We'll learn more about the others like measurables and athleticism at the upcoming combine but since we have the statistics for last season I wanted to compare the top edge prospect's production (as listed on the official NFL Combine web page).

Production is 1 piece of the puzzle...

Would you draft DEze over David Bailey? Me either.

Thanks for the write up, Very interesting to see EzE and how he stacks up with this class.

I won't say what video but there was a draft video about edge rushers and in the comments when looking statistically at college rushers someone mentioned the best stat to look at for success was TFL.

The best in college usually translated well into being in the NFL.

Here is the quote shrunken a lot.

last year i started going through sports reference's site to see if i could find a stat that maybe you could link to elite edge rushers.Looked at the last 73 first and second team all pros and players with 3+ probowls ( very rare btw). The stat that stood out to me was tfl/per game. Not just the final year but over their whole college run. Looking at players listed as olb or de on their site. Out of 73 players going back to suggs, jared allen only 5 players had less than 0.6 tfl/game. Guys like the bosa brothers, mack, etc had 1.0tfl per game up to 1.58/game.The average and the median was .90/game. Regardless of conference ( crosby, hendrickson, khalil mack, demarcus lawrence) age, who they played with or however many games they played. Parsons and tj watt few games but good tfls/per game. I would never say this was the end all be all but it is something. It's why i like parker so much. +1.0t/tfl a game. My guess is it just points to a player who can track the ball carrier and can impact play after play. It also had a slightly higher coorelation than sacks per game. Where lots of guys would be about 0.5/sack per game the tfls would be way beyond that. I don't know. Maybe something for draft nerds to think about.
