Top Running Backs (total yards)

DeMarco Murray - 3rd round
Le'Veon Bell - 2nd round
LeSean McCoy - 2nd round
Marshawn Lynch - 2nd round
Justin Forsett - 7th round (on 3 different teams over 5 years before going to Baltimore before doing anything consistently productive)
Arian Foster - Undrafted
Jeremy Hill - 2nd round
Frank Gore - 3rd round
Lamar Miller - 4th round
Alfred Morris - 6th round
Matt Forte - 2nd round
Jamaal Charles - 3rd round

Teams rarely draft running backs in the first round anymore, so it was certainly rare for 2 to go this year. But you can see here you can get a running back anywhere. Generally the top backs are picked in rounds 2 and 3, but the Cowboys didn't like their options in the 3rd round and Gregory fell to us in the 2nd.

These running backs on the roster, especially behind this offensive line shouldn't be ignored.

The Patriots were able to win the super bowl without a great running back and that should be noted. What should also be noted is that the Patriots also threw the ball 609 times (7th most in the league). Where last year we were the 2nd to lowest in the league in pass attempts.

Perhaps Linehan wants to pass more, and I think we should have passed a bit more last year, but I don't think we can ignore what worked for us last year. I'm hoping that the defense is a lot better than last year, but the model worked, and I'd like to see us continue with it to a degree. I hope if these running backs don't work out, that they'll make a move at some point, but I think it is time to stop panicking about it.

Cowboys were a bad reversal away from NFC championship game and you want to return to 8-8? Passing more, especially with an aging QB with a bad back is a recipe for disaster. This OL is at its best when run blocking and you want to neutralize that? Let's stop trying to be like latest fad each season and concentrate on improving on what we do best, run the ball, pick our spots in passing game, control the clock.

Brady is older than Romo. As for Romo's back, he still had his best season ever last year (completion % and QB rating), so I'm guessing it's not too much of a downfall in terms of what he can do on the field. He knows how to play with it.

You might want to re-read what I actually wrote.

The more this forum frets about running back the more I believe a running back won't be added to the roster.

The guys presently on the roster will be given every opportunity to win jobs.

I wouldn't look for another back to be added unless...

A. There's an injury.
B. The running game appears ineffective over the first couple preseason games.

If Days can show anything that would be a real bonus.

Romo isn't even in the same neighborhood as Brady.

A year ago, nobody thought DeMarco Murray was a big deal at all.

And even today, I take Lesean McCoy over Murray all day long. Philly got worse at RB with Murray.

Murray did a great job, and I think the running game will look different this year. But that doesn't mean it can't be just as productive.

I am not the least bit concerned if we throw more than we did last year. It's one of our strengths. It's more important to run when you need to and want to, not that we follow the same blueprint from an "exceptional" year by Murray..I know Days is a longshot but he is a downhill runner. He looks like the kind of guy that will get more than 10 yards on 3 straight carries if we need them. Move the chains.

I guess Chip Kellly would disagree given what he paid Murray and what he refused to pay McCoy.

I agree with you on our running game though. Murray was a very solid runner who did everything at least passably well. He isn't irreplaceable and a salary of $8M a year is too steep considering the cap implications. I'd love to have him around still, but hard decisions have to be made and it was the right one to let him walk.

I saw more high picks on the OP's post than expected to be honest. I think we are in good enough shape though given the flexibility of guys like Randle and McFadden. Anything out of Dunbar or Ryan Williams would be a nice bonus.

I just don't think they're done. Not sure who it will be, but I think they'll be working on it all camp.

My fail was getting the round wrong, your fail is not seeing his name at all.. I think your fail was worse than mine...

Yes, I failed to give your OP much thought. Sorry. I just skimmed though and saw there were no 1st rounder in your list.

On a serious note, you could be a really good poster if you would focus on quality over quantity when creating new threads. I've seen a few good threads that you started, but I still have a hard time taking your threads seriously because you create so many of them in a short time frame and many seem to just be random nonsensical thoughts.

It would also help if you consider all of these threads that your create as just topics for discussion and not a contest that you are trying to win. Many people give you some good input that you ignore because you seem intent on proving some random point.
