1.America's Team
Image-enhancing promotions helped the Cowboys earn the "America's Team" moniker in the 1970s.

The No. 1 nickname of all-time is the Dallas Cowboys' America's Team.

I never liked the "America's Team" nickname, sounds like something a bunch of suits would come up with in a board meeting.

"The Steel Curtain" sounds much more my speed, too bad I dislike the Steelers.

So did doomsday not get listed because it wasn't good enough, or because we already had one?

I dont like a lot of those top 10 lists.....i am curious who votes on them.

All of those other nicknames are very well known to most NFL fans & I got no problem with them as nicknames for other teams. But our nickname is the most enduring (much to the annoyance of other NFL teams & their fans) who continue to repeatedly try to claim "America's team" as their own. All we need do to continue to claim the right to the title is to finally win another SB--our 6th.

That is a great idea for a sig pic.

:D

"Doomsday Defense" is better than "No Name Defense". It was around a lot longer and was more appropriate IMO. The Dolphins were only referred to that way for a short time before it changed to the "Killer Bees" (or B's) while Doomsday stuck for a very long time and even had revisions over the years like "Doomsday II".

There's a very good reason why it is #1 and always will be. Other teams try and borrow it. No one tries to borrow Steel Curtain or Purple People Eaters.

I have seen the Steelers, Packers, Saints, Giants, Patriots, and Commanders in the NFL all try and take that nickname. In baseball I've seen the Braves and Yankees try it. In basketball the Celtics and Lakers. None of them can make it stick. Know why? They can't earn it.

Then they get a bunch of fans all up in arms about a nickname and they tell us it is offensive. More offensive than Monsters and cannibals? Please. That's a sorry excuse at best. It's called jealousy. Plain old green eyed, slack jawed, no imagination jealousy. Don't let a bunch of pissed off mouth breathers make you think it isn't a great nickname. If it wasn't great, no one else would want it.

Really? I hadn't noticed. Somebody call the police and file a theft report.

Pittsburgh, Minnesota, San Diego, Miami and Chicago may all gripe about not being #1 on a top 10 nickname list, but Washington and the Rams should keep quiet. They received two spots each. Is there a top 15 list? Surely, The Doomsday Defense didn't drop too far down.

Yeah, the media tries to steal it and give it away because it isn't specific and looks good in print. Has nothing to do with jealousy if you ask me, it's very commercial sounding is my point.

I don't see how it's offensive though, it's pretty ridiculous if people claim that. No one is making me think it isn't a great nick name, obviously it's great, I just have a different opinion why. The media loves crap like that. "America's Game", "America's Addiction", etc. You can put "America's" in front of anything and you've got an instant headline.
