I've been mulling over the loss all night and the more I think about it the more I feel that the entire coaching staff needs to be replaced.
We haven't had decent coaches since Jimmy and his crew left. From Switzer, Gailey, Campo and now BP, this organization just hasn't put together a good all around staff in over a decade. We all had high hopes for Parcells but I truly believe the game has passed him by. Someday he will have a bust in Canton, but his approach to NFL football became obsolete about 15 years ago.
As much as the players are responsible for execution on the field, a loss like today's was a direct result of poor coaching. Not all of it falls on Parcells, but on the entire coaching staff altogether. The decision for go for 2 in the first quarter was the worst coaching decision I've seen since Campo decided to NOT go for 2 back in 2002. 150 yards in penalties is a direct reflection of the coaching staff. That is almost TWO ENTIRE FOOTBALL FIELDS worth of penalties that we gave Washington. Good football teams don't do that.
Instead of blasting our defensive backs for their poor play, let's look at the guys who coach them. These players are professionals, but they're also human. There's lots of good players in the NFL, but it's good coaching that turns a good player into a great one. Zimmer runs one of the most vanilla defenses I think I've ever seen. Our complete inability to put pressure on the QB is laughable with the talent we have.
This team has too much talent and potential to put on a performance like we did today. We finally have a decent QB again, a defense that SHOULD be dominant, and are 2-3 personnel changes from being championship contenders again. All that we need now is a decent coaching staff.
