Touchback rule

Meh....... I don't think anyone would have issue with the rule if this play had happened in Dallas' favor.

This rule isn't new, and the only time people get pissed off about it is when their team falls victim to it.

So what is the premise of the rule? I don't get it. And don't care if it's been a rule since the 60's. Every fumble goes to the team that recovered it. Who was the brain surgeon that says it goes to the other team if you fumble through the endzone? They change/update rules every year like what is a catch! They can and should review this.

I appreciate Lamb taking accountability for his own blunder, BUT that fumble through the endzone rule is the dumbest rule in sports. Anywhere else on the field, the ball goes back to the spot of the fumble. Should be the same deal.

I think they are going to change this rule. They have been talking about it. But CeeDee needs to do better. two drops and a fumble out of the end zone slightly tarnishes and otherwise fabulous game.

I think this is one of those real old rules that has always been there - rugby has a similar rule.

It's very stupid. The defense should only get the ball in a recovery of the fumble.
To me it seems like the offense should retain possession but at like the 10 or something.

But I'm not dying to change the rule or anything-- it's been the same rule forever and it's fine.

I just think it's a little bizarre and I don't quite see the logic with how it fits with other rules.

Agree.....this been a rule for years. Can't understand the cry for change now.

I used to be, well it is the rule. It is the punishment to the offense for failing to get the TD.

Now I am leaning toward, yeah it is a dumb rule in a way. And not because it happened against us. Look at the Dak / Leupke fumbled exchange against the Dolphins. Miami recovered, just as Dallas could have recovered. So this fumbles through the end zone, and no recovery, why should the offense be punished. If it went out of bounds and not through the end zone, still Dallas ball.

If they change it, fine, if not, then fine. How often does it really happen. Seems more often lately. But is that enough to change the rule.

Heck, just throwing it out there. Make the rule the offense keeps the ball, but assess a 5 or 10 yard penalty. Or, If the defense gets it at the 20, give it to the offense at the 20 and make it 1st and goal.

Explain the purpose of the rule?

1000 percent and I'll all but guarantee you it will be changed come the offseason
It shouldn’t the rule been that way for a long. It should be a touch back, the offense already has a big advantage over the defense with a the current rules. If that was Detroit you be celebrating the rule. Hopefully they don’t change it.
