You never really know about the schedule
Many times what looks like an easy schedule is tough and vice versa
The key is our division
Play well in your division and the other games are a bit less stressful
The record at the end of the year is not as important as being healthy and in the playoffs

The schedule is what it is. Teams are so close in skills, even with a divergence of talent, that on any given Sunday...ect.

However, I do balk at the comments of last year and what people said, and somehow that applies to this year.

None of us know what tomorrow brings in regard to this team. Injuries, lack of hustle, suspensions all have a hand in the outcome. For Dallas and who Dallas plays.

This team is sound, but has question marks. Not everything is gravy as some suggest. But as time passes, it will become more evident what this team is about.

I still want the defense to show me they have the stuff to be a consistent squad that gets the other offense off the field. I still want to see this group of running backs find the holes the line makes and exploit them. I want to see them pick up blitzes and give Romo time to do that thing he do.

As yet, nothing is written. For some, this season seems positive and perhaps a year where Dallas is in the NFC Championship game.

It may happen. But just as some herald last year's schedule and suggest that was said to be tough, and the team won. I also think about all those who have year in and year out set expectations of greatness and it never arrived.

Which simply means - and looking at my sig reveals this includes me - all the predictions and groovy feeling amounts to a big bag of:

As a fellow fan, I'm flabbergasted that you can't see the huge improvement in the defense. By the time the season started last year we lost Sean Lee (the uncontested heart & soul of our Defense), Lawrence (the only "premier" edge rusher on the roster), & after a few games we lost Claiborne (although he hasn't been what most had hoped, he still is a solid CB when healthy) and an overachieving Justin Durant. Nobody knew for sure what we had in both McClain's, Wilcox, Hitchens, Crawford, Mincey, and Melton. We was forced to depended on overpaid Brandon Carr, Lack luster Hayden, grumpy Scandrick, undrafted Church, inconsistent Carter, fingers crossed Selvie, and praying for anything out of Anthony Spencer. With all the naysayers predicting our defense to be the worst "ever", Nobody could have guessed what miracles Rod Marinelli would pull out of this defense that ranked dead last the year before.

Fast forward a year later. Another year under Marinelli's watch can only make everybody involved.. better.
The Secondary is as solid as it ever has been with Carr coming on strong toward the end of the year, scandrick is solid as always, and anything from Claiborne will be a plus. Add arguably the best CB in the draft, veteran Corey white, & promising Patmon. The Safety position emerged admirably last year and will be protected will a couple players with position flex like Byron Jones & White.
The Linebackers has the potential to be a strength of our defense. Sean Lee greatly improves the defense with his intelligence alone, McClain can intimidate opponents, & Hitchens is a Lee clone (my opinion). Throw in veterans Wilber, Brinkley, Rivers, and Gachkar. Then add promising rookies Damien Wilson and Mark Nzeocha, this will be exciting to see who elevates their game just to stay on the roster.
The Defense Line is easily the most improved. We added the best pass rusher available in Hardy. And although he's been out, All the players have raved ab how he sets the tone of practices. That dosent sound like a player with rust. Lawrence proved he could be a difference maker, Mincey is solid, and Crawford is expected to breakout after settling into his newfound DT position. Coaches liked what they saw out of Jack Crawford, Ben Gardner,& Terrell McClain before their injuries. The Draft brought us projected top five pick Gregory and under rated Ryan Russell. And I truly believe one of these young DT from last year will emerge: Whaley, Bishop,& Coleman.. Hayden is officially on notice.

These Defense is healthier, younger, more talented, and best of all.. Hungry to prove it. And you better believe Marinelli will get the best out of each one of them. so "not much" improved is severely under valuing your own team.

As far as knowing if this team is for real?... I believe by week two we will know (thanks to the NFL's schedule makers). If Dallas beats the Giants at home on national television, then goes to Philthy and beats the over hyped Eagles, that would be two division foes that I think will challenge us for the division crown. Do this w/o Hardy, then we can expect the defense to only improve as the season goes on. GO COWBOYS!!

The linebackers are certainly the strength of the defense. You stated the secondary is as solid as ever. Since when have they been solid? Not in recent years. And like I said the defensive line will be the same for the first 4 games as last year. Gregory will rotate in but he's a rookie. The defense should be better as the season progresses but there's certainly not "huge" improvement at least initially.

This....

There is nothing tough about our schedule. If we truly have a top 3 QB like most on here claim. Arguably the best O-line. Top 3 WR. A defense that has improved as long as MO does not start.

Then we shouldn't have anything to fear.

I guess Green Bay, New England and Seattle aren't tough.

Dumb question... does Hardy get to play in preseason?

Yes, just like Scandrick did last year. He is allowed full participation in TC and the preseason games.

The bigger question is when does he get to resume practicing during the season. Josh Brent was allowed to practice for a few weeks before his suspension was over. Scandrick only ended up being suspended for 2 weeks so I can't go by what happened with him. There does not seem to be a set rule on when suspended players are allowed to resume practicing. The Cowboys had a backup Safety (Jakar Hamilton) that was suspended but I don't think he had to miss any practice time.

I thought a suspended player wasn't allowed back with the team until the suspension was over.

Yeah but like someone said earlier, we don't have the 12-4 Dallas Cowboys on our schedule twice. It evens out.

Dallas handled Seattle in their house and should have GB in Lambeau, so I am not really shaking in my boots at the thought of those 2 games.

3 teams? Really?

Everyone on here is already running around saying Romo is better than Brady, which I strongly disagree. So we will see.

Seattle, we already beat them. We proved anybody can be beat.

At the end of the day, we might have beaten greenbay if it wasn't for a bum of a running back.

I'm not into this hard schedule this, hard schedule that. Anyone can get their *** kicked. So what if we lose to the three teams you named, which we just might.

If we do, and lose to others and miss the playoffs, we deserve it. Plain and simple. Skating into the playoffs, with what most if you call an easy schedule, does not always pay off.

No. I don't know why you would think that. It was much discussed last year with Scandrick and Brent.

Not when you're 8-8. Schedule is based on how you fared the previous year. The better your record, the harder the schedule.

Your record only has impact on 2 total games. 6 against division, 4 against whatever AFC division (AFC East this year), 4 against whatever NFC division (NFC South this year), 2 against NFC teams with similar records (Seattle and GB this year). The schedule this year looks to be about as tough as last years. There is always 2-3 games where someone is expected to be good due to circumstances they are not, look at NO last year, Seattle early on, Philly later on. And there are games where you probably should have won walking away but late game heroics, STL, Hou. The scedule is the schedule it isn't like this is CFB where you can load up a couple of cream puffs early in the year.

The whole strength of schedule sqawk that fans and media spout of about means nothing. Teams have pretty much zero control over who they play. You can pretty much predict 83% percent of the schedule of who plays who for the next 100 years as long as there are 32 teams in the NFL.

I actually like our schedule this year. Green Bay away is the toughest game. We don't have to pay NE in Foxborough, and we get a Seattle team at home that plays like a different team on the road, after we beat them at their house last season.

We get our Divisional opponents the first few weeks as the Giants play OL shuffle with their LT out and they just had one of their best DL injured. Just think, a guy may be playing LT for them that Randy Gregory abused in college. The Eagles will be getting acclimated after rearranging all the chairs on deck at critical positions.

The NFC South doesn't scare me, the Saints aren't the same team anymore and lost Graham. The Falcons will probably be the toughest game out of the first 4. Hardy is going to be amped for that Carolina game, the Bucs are in complete rebuilding mode and a year or two away from being relevant.

I love that we're playing the AFC East down the stretch. Our OL should be in midseason form, and going against the most talented DL's in the NFL. That's going to be awesome. But, in a competitive game, out of the Bills/Dolphins/Jets, it's a little sad when the best QB is Ryan Tannehill. I think Marinelli finally has some horses on defense to give these inexperienced/below average QB's fits, and I think they're going to get taken to school. Their basic strengths are defense, and specifically DL, and we have their kryptonite. The Bills have a little talent at WR, but EJ Manuel still has to throw them the ball. Can anyone say they're worried about any of these offenses outside of NE?

And yeah, any given sunday things happen, but I'm having trouble actually finding games where we *aren't* favored when it's all said and done. I think our schedule shapes up quite nicely.

Our schedule does look tough on paper.

But you don't win or lose games on paper.

Actually i'm looking forward to this season. Every game should be more of a dog fight than usual. Fun times.

But.

One week at a time.

Well said my friend. And a tough schedule makes you tough and ready for the playoffs. The Cowboys need to be tough and ready to win the Super Bowl this year. And also I like that picture.

last year it looked tough on paper but other fans starting bringing up who have you beat. You just play who is on your schedule and tally the Ws and Ls at the end of the season. That is all you can do.
