I was playing around with numbers on a wikipedia Super Bowl site. Clearly the NFC East is indeed the toughest division in the NFL now and historically.

I'll share a few stats by division, regarding SB appearances and SB wins. I know some organizations have changed conferences and divisions over the years, but its the organization that won or participated in the SB and raises the competitiveness of that division today.

NFC South

3 appearances, 1 win by Bucaneers

AFC South

4 appearances, 2 wins by the Colts

NFC North

10 appearances, 4 wins, 3 by the Packers, 1 by the Bears

AFC North

9 appearances, 6 wins, 5 by the Steelers, 1 by the Ravens

NFC West

9 appearances, 6 wins, 5 by the 49ers, 1 by the Rams

AFC West

14 appearances, 6 wins, 3 by the Raiders, 2 by the Broncos, 1 by the Chiefs

AFC East

16 appearances, 6 wins, 3 by the Patriots, 2 by the Dolphins, 1 by the Jets

***NFC East***

19 appearances, 11 wins, 5 by the Cowboys, 3 by the Commanders, 3 by the Giants

NFC EAst is also the only division with multiple SB wins by 3 different teams and the only division with multiple appearances by every team in the division.

The Hall of Shame for teams that have never even been to the Show:

Jaguars (they get a pass for being a relatively new organization, Texans/Oilers, Saints, Cardinals, Lions, Browns.

Dallas Cowboys have the most appearances (8) to (6) for NE, Pitts, and Denver, and tied for most wins (5) with SF, and Pitts, though both crush us in success once getting to the big game, SF 5-0, Pittsburg 5-1, Dallas 5-3.

I like our chances of getting number 6 ahead of SF for sure...you never know about Pittsburgh, but if we can just pop a couple more on the board it's unlikely anyone will approach our SB victory total for a long, long time.

The NFC East is clearly the toughest division in football in regards to the playoffs and the Super Bowl.

The Titans were the Oilers. The Texans is an entirely different organization.

And historically, the NFC East is the toughest, but the AFC South has been holding that title for awhile now and judging by the route the Commanders are going and Philly's underachieving reign passing while the Texans actually starting to find an identity(they still need a running game and a #2 receiver tho...who the hell is Kevin Walter??), that will remain.

Great post. All true and factual and "by the numbers". Can't be refuted, debated, or "spun" upon how one feels.

Now, take a look at the Hall of Fame numbers. Before you do, remember that stuff like MVP, Coach of the Year, Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, etc.............and the HALL OF FAME, are all "arbitrary" and totally dependent on how folks feel and their bias's, and not the hard numbers.

The Hall of Fame is the single biggest and most blatant example of "anti-Cowboy" bias by far...........in a class by itself. When you look at it, remember to write-off the guys who weren't REALLY Dallas Cowboys, but are listed in the Dallas file because they're in the HOF, but only stopped by in Dallas for a season or two. Guys like Jackie Smith, Forrest Gregg, Lance Alworth, Mike Ditka, etc.........Also, you have to eliminate Tom Landry and Tex Schramm (not from the HOF, but to my point, the PLAYERS ONLY) to get my point.

That leaves a grand total of.............................EIGHT? as in 8!!! as in "OCHO"!!! ONLY EIGHT DALLAS COWBOYS in the HOF!!! Then, take a look at all the other guys in the HOF listed by Team. Dallas is "right around" the neighborhood of such storied franchise's as the Chargers, Vikings, Tennessee/Houston, Arizona, etc...................NOT where you'd guess they'd be, up there with Pittsburgh, the Whiners, the Skins, etc...........

And I don't care about Dallas only being around since 1960. It's a crying shame/rip off that a team like Dallas, with all the numbers you so accurately listed above, is so under-represented in the HOF!

On a side note, guess how many "Coach of the Year's" the Cowboys have had in all there years of playoff and SB glory? If you guessed more than TWO, you'd be wrong. Once for Landry, and once for Johnson. That's it.

Sorry for the rant, but just a little diddy for everyone who thinks I'm a "conspiracy nut" when it comes to this crap. Just for the hell of it, try asking your most informed and die-hard football fan-buddies "Say, how many Cowboys are in the HOF, any idea"?? I haven't had ANYONE EVER answer me less than, probably 15 or 20. That's what even the most dire Cowboy haters answer. Never had anyone guess less than 15!!

Eight SB appearances, 5 SB Rings (than could easily have been ALL EIGHT, because they certainly could've won the Colt SB and both Steeler SB's), a zillion playoff appearances with "umpteen" wins, all the glory, all the wins, etc, etc, etc............probably the greatest franchise in NFL history for only being around 47 years...................and only EIGHT Hall of Famers.............

It's a tragedy and a shame and a blight on the NFL IMO!!

Great post, cool info.

But the numbers don't make sense...

19 appearances, 8 wins, 5 by the Cowboys, 3 by the Commanders, 3 by the Giants

Last I checked, 5 + 3 + 3 = 11

The AFC South had a nice year this year, one of their best ever with 3 playoff teams; however, the NFC East also had 3 playoff teams, including the SB champion, while the AFC didn't even have a participant, so I'll stick with the NFC East having a better year this year...and while the Eagles and Texans were both 8-8, I'm going to bet the Eagles will be back in the playoffs before the Texans will. The Eagles are still legit at QB and RB and on defense when healthy...they are back where they were for years, needing WRs to throw the ball to.

But your not taking into account and dismissing the Eagle "curse". The Eagles are the embarrassment of the NFC East. Four straight trips to the NFC Champ. game, one win and a SB loss...............as usual.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving franchise. A close second to my wanting Dallas to win it every year, is my "Eagle watch", and waiting for them to lose their last game of every year.

Some of you hate the Skins, others hate the Vaginants. I hate the Eggless and Whiners more than anything else in the NFL. I live in Hawaii (22 yrs. now), but was born & raised in PA and a Cowboy fan. I have no use for the Beagles and their fans. Total bottom feeding maggots across the board. They coulda/woulda/shoulda/ padded the NFC East numbers in SB's, but of course cannot. Instead, they bring up the rear and represent NOTHING of value to the NFC East, or NFC as a whole.

They had their shot the first half of this decade. Another two decades, and they'll lose another SB. It's in the stars................

I hate the Eagles as well...I went to the Dallas game in Philly for 6 straight years...if that doesn't make you hate the Eagles, you've never been to Veteran Stadium and dealt with those fans. :)

But I give them credit for two SB appearances...I hope they totally blow it and are in the cellar again this year, but I'm guessing it will be the Commanders this year. One good offseason of FA and the draft, and the Eagles could be competing for a wildcard spot again. Heck, one more win this year against the Commanders and they'd have been in the playoffs instead of Washington.
