If someone wants to offer a 2nd rounder for Armstrong, of course you take it.
He's spent 3 full seasons in the league showing basically nothing. He's played 900 snaps on defense in his career so far (which adds up to be appreciably more than a full season's workload for a starter, as a guy like D-Law typically gets 600-700 snaps in a full season) and he only has 2.5 sacks to show for it. Knock the previous coaches all you want, but if you're supposed to be a pass-rushing DE and you can't work your way to more than 2.5 sacks in 900 snaps, it's a *you* problem.
We spent a 4th rounder on him and aside from, like, 6 total days in his career where he had nice days and actually looked good, he's done nothing. He's entering his contract year and it doesn't seem like he's sniffing a starting job, so it'll be tough for him to blow up. In all likelihood, he's gone next season anyway. I know we're excited about him having a nice day in preseason, but I'm not turning down a 2nd rounder for 1 year of bench production from him.
If someone wants to offer a 2nd rounder for Anae, of course you take it.
He's got more years left on his rookie deal, but he's also shown much less than Armstrong, earning his way into dressing up for games way less often. And he was a much lower draft pick to begin with. So while I like him and I'd be content to keep him and pay him his rookie contract wage and hope he breaks out... I'm not passing on a 2nd round draft pick to bet on Anae blowing up.
I'd be perfectly content to add a 2nd round pick and enter the season with only one of these guys. Very few of our backups would I keep at the expense of adding a 2nd rounder instead.
