Jaylon can pass rush.
Let's leverage a deal involving him and Rowdy for whatever the Jets want to offer. And I mean whatever..

Not only no, but he’ll no. We finally have some depth and you want to trade it away for a conditional pick? And no one is going to give a second or 3rd round pick for an unproven player.
Depth? :muttley:

They are JAGs that every team has on their 2nd team. Nothing more, nothing less.

If someone wants to offer a 2nd rounder for Armstrong, of course you take it.

He's spent 3 full seasons in the league showing basically nothing. He's played 900 snaps on defense in his career so far (which adds up to be appreciably more than a full season's workload for a starter, as a guy like D-Law typically gets 600-700 snaps in a full season) and he only has 2.5 sacks to show for it. Knock the previous coaches all you want, but if you're supposed to be a pass-rushing DE and you can't work your way to more than 2.5 sacks in 900 snaps, it's a *you* problem.

We spent a 4th rounder on him and aside from, like, 6 total days in his career where he had nice days and actually looked good, he's done nothing. He's entering his contract year and it doesn't seem like he's sniffing a starting job, so it'll be tough for him to blow up. In all likelihood, he's gone next season anyway. I know we're excited about him having a nice day in preseason, but I'm not turning down a 2nd rounder for 1 year of bench production from him.

If someone wants to offer a 2nd rounder for Anae, of course you take it.

He's got more years left on his rookie deal, but he's also shown much less than Armstrong, earning his way into dressing up for games way less often. And he was a much lower draft pick to begin with. So while I like him and I'd be content to keep him and pay him his rookie contract wage and hope he breaks out... I'm not passing on a 2nd round draft pick to bet on Anae blowing up.

I'd be perfectly content to add a 2nd round pick and enter the season with only one of these guys. Very few of our backups would I keep at the expense of adding a 2nd rounder instead.

Why is it bold when he barely plays? Hes done nothing to warrant a spot on the roster. Also from the look of it we are going heavy at CB
Also from the look of it. The guy in your avatar has been demoted to special teams.

Our DE position is Lawrence and a bunch of guys most other teams wouldn't take. We can't trade what little depth we have just because fans want to.

One other cautionary word on thinking Armstrong or Anae are some kind of studs- the evidence being presented is based on preseason games where both players were matched against second and third stringers, some of which won’t be in the league come September when the real action starts.

I’m not knocking either of those players. But they do not have much if any trade value. That goes for Jaylon Smith too. His contract is an absolute albatross for any team who might have mild interest in his waning skills. Trades in the NFL are much more rare than say MLB or the NBA.

Jets are in full reboot mode. They are not gonna give up anything more than a conditional 6th.

I agree. Jets are in the running for top pick. Another injury or two and they probably lock it up. Any Jet draft pick is likely a high draft pick in that round.

I still would shop Lawrence to the Jets to see if they give up a 4th.

Some questions…
  1. With the Jets rebuilding, why would they take DLaw’s contract?
  2. Why would we trade one of our best defenders away on a team already talent challenged on D?

  2. Why would we trade one of our best defenders away on a team already talent challenged on D?

1) Wishful thinking on my part after looking at his contract. Lawrence has a base of $19M in 2022 and $21M in 2023. Cowboys can dump Lawrence after this year. Any team trading for Lawrence now would have to pay him $17M for a one year rental. His 2022 and 2023 base salaries are not guaranteed. Desperate teams do desperate things sometimes. Saleh is a defensive guy. Cowboys most likely would have to give up a pick for some team to take Lawrence.
POST-6/1 TRADE now:
2021 Dead Cap: $8,000,000
2022 Dead Cap: $19,000,000
2021 Cap Savings: $17,000,000

2) Lawrence was one of the best defenders. No longer. The defensive line is not talent challenged since adding O-Dig, Parsons, Golston, Basham, Urban, Gallimore, Hamilton, and Bohanna.

DeMarcus Lawrence is still an outstanding talent. Too many of our fans don’t appreciate what he is. He’s currently our best run defender and his QB hurries and pressure numbers are still outstanding. His sack numbers haven’t been great partly because there has been no one else the opposing OL has to worry about. Hopefully that changes this year if Randy Gregory can stay active.

Regarding your answer #2- all we have is hope on those guys. We don’t yet know how they will perform when the real games start. I definitely believe Parsons will be a stud. The other guys- all we have is hope until they prove it when the games matter. Never let preseason alone determine how good someone is.

The Lawrence legend lives for one more year and then is likely gone. Urban plays the run as well as Lawrence. Lawrence can’t get sacks any more. I saw he wasn’t even doubled that much last year.

GMs have to use preseason and practice to project and compare. I would dump Lawrence in favor of the unknown youth and talent.

No need to double team when you just run the ball up the middle to gain a ton of yards. :muttley:

Armstrong hasn't done anything of note thus far for Dallas but take up a roster space in my opinion.

Defensive line has been lackluster at best and begging for a player to step up and make some noise in that group since Armstrong has been on the roster. Regardless of the season Armstrong has, Dallas should let him play out his rookie contract and hope like hell a comp pick will be the return of investment.

No way I pay this guy if the only time i see production from him is during a contract year. It gives me D-Law type vibes and I don't want to go down that path again.

That's complete BS. Some teams depth is much better than other teams depth. Case in point last season with the Cowboys. Our depth sucked.
