Trade back with the Jets for their 2nd and 3rd. They trade up to get a WR since they passed on 1 in the 1st.

Early 2nd- Preston Smith DE/DT Miss St- I actually like Smith most playing inside as a 3 Tech. He has the ability to overwhelm guards with a quick initial burst and strong punch. Knows how to use his long arms (34") and hand fight well. As an end he brings the ability to set the edge and be a force against the run. Won't be a huge pass rush threat as a DE but can hold his own there and keep RT's honest. Rod will love his versatility and would be an immediate impact.

Late 2nd- Eric Rowe FS/CB Utah- Day 1 contributor in sub packages defending the pass and developed into the FS of the future. Blend of athleticism and size is near elite level for a DB. Some think he could stick at CB but I see his best fit back at FS in the NFL. Uses his length to play the ball in the air. Not by any means a hard hitting safety, but can bring guys down. Definitely not a liability in the area. We have been stuck in the past with our safties for a while now and it's time to bring in someone better suited for the current pass happy NFL.

Early 3rd- Mike Davis RB South Carolina- Big, physical, and surprisingly fast (4.4 40). Davis knows how to put his foot in the ground and get up the field quickly. Low center of gravity and muscled frame makes him a load to bring down. Ultimately I see Davis as a reliable workhorse who will have no problem getting 4+ YPC behind our line.

Late 3rd- Jose Matias OG Florida St- 6'5 310 with good movement skills for a guard. Long arms and excels in pass protection right now. Needs to be developed a little further as a run blocker but a lot of potential in a big guy with his playing experience and size and movement skills.

4th Round- Craig Mager CB Texas State- 5'11 200 lbs, 4.44 40, with loose hips and quick feet. Has the ability to mirror nearly any WR. 46 career starts. Small school is about the only thing wrong I can find with Mager. Has a real shot to develop into a really good slot CB imo.

5th Round- Antwan Goodley WR Baylor- WR in a muscled up RB frame. Quick twitch athlete with break away speed. Great in space and can be used for WR screens and reverses. Also an experienced kick returner. Replaces Harris.

I'm cool with the trade backs, but I am not a fan of some of your players.

As for a small school prospect, I would take Tray Walker of Texas Southern over Craig Mager. I didn't see much to impress me in Mager's film. I would take him as a UDFA, but I wouldn't draft him.

Very good draft although I would think we can wait for Davis till the 4 the rd.a trade out of the first seems like the best option unless KJ or Brown makes it to 27.

I'd take it and not think twice about it.

I'm starting to think a trade back is the way to go, that Gurley and the other targets will be gone by 27 but if they want Ajayi they have to move up tot the middle of the 2nd instead of waiting till their pick.

Like the idea of trading down, in fact unless Gurley, Dupree, Brown or Waynes somehow makes it to #27 I think they should if they find a partner. Also like the idea of Preston Smith, he would be a good fit for this defense and I think Rowe has solid potential especially at FS. Davis early in the third is too early for me and though I like Mager plenty particularly in this scheme, he could probably go a round or two later.

To each their own...I just don't see many guys who rival the type of fluid hips and quick feet Mager has in this draft class...especially over 5'10 and 200 lbs a sub 4.5 40. If he played at a bigger school I think he'd have a 2nd/3rd round grade.

Very good draft although I would think we can wait for Davis till the 4 the rd.a trade out of the first seems like the best option unless KJ or Brown makes it to 27.

Davis in the 4th is probably a pipe dream at this point in my opinion. Hand times of sub 4.4 at his pro day is going to drive him up the board. I have him as my 4th rb in this draft class at the moment.

If players we really want at 27 are gone, no doubt that a trade down makes sense.
If...

Fwiw , with about a dozen good backs, I'd be shocked if you cant get Davis a round later.
Wouldn't I'd him in the 4th or 5th at all though....si if he ends up being really good, you ever know, the 3rd might be good value anyway.

Nice Job man. I was thinking a day or so ago that it would be interesting to do a mock where the team moves back to the top of the second round and gets another 3rd.

I really like both of your first picks.

Smith is going to be a very solid, versatile piece on the defensive line. As you say he can play the 3T or SDE, and he would be a good choice early in the 2nd. Getting Smith would be yet another move towards giving Marinelli an elite rotation at all 4 DL spots. Hardy, Lawrence and Mincey along with Smith would give a really nice group of DE's to rotate throughout games. Really, every one of them except Lawrence could play inside in the Nickle if Dallas needed them to and Lawrence can play either DE spot. Even if Smith isn't an elite edge rusher, he is a hand full for OL to deal with. Brings it every play and is strong setting the edge. He kind of reminds me of a young Michael Strahan.

Rowe is shooting up boards. If we got him late in the 2nd, I'd be very happy with that. Another very versatile piece that Marinelli could use in multiple roles.

Davis in the 3rd doesn't excite me a lot. This is such a deep group of backs that I think he very well could be there in the 4th, although I certainly could be wrong about that. RB's will be going later than people expect IMO. I just like several backs better than him.

I like your Matias and Mager picks as well.

I would have liked to see a guy like Gabe Wright or Christian Covington as a mid round developmental DT... but we kind of already have that with Whalen.

That seems like a likely scenario- to trade back with the Jets.

Mike Davis is about the last player in the draft I'd like to pick- i dont think he will amount to a good player in the nfl.

Rowe will be good and im thinking that he will be taken sometime in round 1

I guess I'd live with it. Happy with the Rowe pick. Preston Smith moves like he's stuck in molasses, but he rips through blocks so well. If he had even a slightly better burst he'd be an elite player. Having him inside with Crawford on the nickel would be fun.

I can't make up my mind on Mike Davis. He's deceptively fast because of his patience and big body. He'll look slow, then pop out the other side and shock you with how fast he's moving. Seems to have questionable decision making in terms of reading blocks at times, then will have a string of plays where he makes an excellent cut and turns on the burners upfield. We may be able to get him in the 4th, to be honest.

Since there's going to be a lot of meat in the draft from late 1st to early 2nd, I just hope they don't trade back too far.
