I my be alone on this one but, I would rather use 6th and 7th round pick to find help yearly than wasting them on practice squad guy and guys picked off the practice squad.

I Know,Iknow… Dallas always needs to get younger and develop players. That said, Michael Bennett for a 7th maybe a 6th later played his butt off last night.

If something like that is available, absolutely. But that's not really the case, and when it is, you're competing with 30 other teams.

I don’t think we’ll find this kind of value for a 7th rounder ever again. We were fortunate that he didn’t for the Pats scheme and that they needed cap relief. Perfect storm for us and Bennett will be a difference maker for this defense.

Yep. And a lot of times, those trades aren't even available to your team. Belichick, for example, traded Bennett because he didn't want him to be signed by an AFC contender, so pretty much all the good AFC teams were out of it from the start. Then probably offered him to us because Bennett knew Richard.

It's more of a "right place right time" thing than a strategy you can repeatedly pull off. You just have to keep talking to teams and see what's up; sometimes you'll get a Jamal Adams offer and sometimes you'll get a Michael Bennett offer.

dont forget Quinn he was trade and I believe for a 6th or something.. we stole some pass rushers

Assuming he continues to play at a level as to which he did last night, that was an amazing value on a 6th round pick well spent.

I would go one better and say picks from the fifth round and down are less likely to turn out than using them to acquire a vet.

This year, the Lions traded starting safety Quandre Diggs and a 2021 seventh for a fifth-rounder. There are always players like this who can be acquired to improve depth. You might not can get the Jamal Adams types for low picks, but you can get vets who just don't fit into a team's plans or cost more than what the team feels they are worth.

some years you have to supplement your roster with guys like this, in these cases we had to cut taco and Gregory not coming back caused us to waste this draft picks on spots now had holes in them..we filled them and for great value..

it does look like it will help bridge the gaps to Hyder and Armstrong etc, maybe Hill develops as well..you cant find these deals nor make them yearly but it does help..

Nobody is going to argue with spending a (or every) 6th or 7th round pick for a solid depth player.

We have done this several times. It has worked out well at times. Not so much other times.

We have used late round picks in trades with regularity but in the past it has been for some lower tier players. I can’t recall who the DB we traded for that was a conditional pick and we kept him on the roster, lost the pick and never used him.

Thompson was another one of those guys.

Good pick up for us!

It doesn't have to always work out. It only has to yield more quality players than if they were used as draft picks.

its 50/50, id keep doing it tho, its not going to hurt, but when it hits, it hits well.
