Trade value for Pickens might not be what people are expecting

Contract has to be worked out before anything can happen. We can use the non-exclusive tag on him, however if another team were to sign him it guarantees us 2 1st round picks which I don't think any team will give up for Pickens. I think the most likely scenario is we tag him, he plays out another year, balls out again and gets top WR1 money next year to another team. I don't think this front office is sold on him, particularly his personality.
Thanks for the explanantion.

I say use the non-exclusive and hope either for the 2 firsts or a decent deal to have to match. It would honestly be very hard not to take 2 firsts for Pickens but I agree with you that no team is going to give that up for him which means Dallas saves a little money on the tag.

If Pickens was a top 7-8 pick in this years draft , he'd be making around $7 million a year. If he is tagged, he makes around $28 million. Teams take that into consideration when putting a trade value on players.
you are forgetting one vital fact:
he performed at an All Pro Level this year
no draft choice can show that

Yikes!!! You willing to settle on a 2nd best case or possibly just a 3rd and 4th? I'm not!

I think a 3rd is too low.

The guy showed when lamb was out that he is able to replace a #1 WR. Now that was only a few games. Usually teams scheme differently when you are the set #1 like lamb is and not just a day to day replacement.

Also he is to me not a #1 WR. He has some great traits that make him very special. But he lacks sound route running, has only a few routes he is able to run and still has that red flag that he might be trouble.

So i dont think he is worth a first rounder. Maybe a very low one (30+). 2nd round seems fair to me.

If Pickens were in this year’s draft, he would be either the first or second receiver off the board. So a second-rounder is a big, fat no.
If he were in this year's draft he would not be getting $30+ million per season for at least 4 years. Its not an apples to apples thing.

Not saying I don't agree with you, just saying that it isn't just where he would go in this year's draft.

Who said anything about $30 million? We’re talking about talent here, because he is worth more than a second-round pick.

Talent-wise, he would probably be the first receiver selected. And since we’re talking about the draft, he would not be receiving a big contract. So yes, it would be apples to apples.

dude, on more than half the teams in the NFL he would be unquestionably a #1 WR
not sure what you are smoking but send me some

If you can get a first or a stud defensive player then yes. If not then keep him.

If that's true, how is he worth a CeeDee contract?
How is CeeDee worth a CeeDee contract?

Yesterday price is not today’s price so I don’t bother worrying about it too much, especially since our front office are idiots

I didn't forget anything. I am responding to the post that trade value is not determined by talent alone. It's determined by talent and contract situation.

If George Pickens was making <$10 million, you'd get a 1st rd pick for him.

On a franchise tag making $28 million, he's not worth a 1st rd pick.

Someone trying to start a low ball offer rumors. All AFCS teams need a top notch WR.
I know Denver could use someone like Pickens. Some of their fans was hoping he wasn't tagged. I'm sure they are willing to part ways with a 1st round pick for him.

Imagine losing the guy who was a top 5 play making wr in the league last year and is 24 yesrs old for any of the list of 2nd round picks we've had over the last 15 years. I don't have a ton of faith in the jones boys, but I don't think they're that stupid.
Yeah dude that would be depressing...but they won this trade with pitt...and it could pan out to be huge if pickens will work with dallas....this offense could be best in the nfl for multiple years
