If I were Jerry I would call around to see if maybe we can get 6th or 7th round picks for Coleman and spears. Enough of the run stuffing DEs who can't get past a telephone pole

0 trade value. Who would even give that up for them 6th rounder ?

6th or 7th round picks for these two? Who would want them? Heck... the Cowboys may as well skip drafting players after the 3rd round and sign UDFA!

why are people so obsessed with 6th or 7th rounders.

I'd rather have a vet who can eat 15 snaps a game than a pick who doesn't make the team

And then when Dallas is giving up 200 yards a game on the ground are you gonna want them to cut these players that replaced them?

Zilch. Both coul have been signed by every team in the league this off season, we are the only ones that showed significant interest.

I think you guys are being ridiculous. I mean, I know for a fact that we can get at least a 6" Subway sandwich for Coleman... maybe even a bag of chips if we throw Spears into the mix.

Spears isnt going anywhere for petesake. With all the problems we have to address this off season spears is the least of our worries. He is great vs the run and brings little in the pass rush. Get the other things fixed and worry about spears later. Prossman

Spears gets little pass rush, but he's a reasonable DE at stopping the run.

For now, we can do a lot worse.

Didn't we sign Coleman to a one year deal last year? If so, we couldn't trade him because he's going to be a FA.

If the team is smart enough to add more of a 4-3 front (JMO), you could use both Spears and Coleman as DTs. Now ultimately, I like both of the DEs in a 3-4 to be able to rush the passer well if not great. It really frees up the outside LBs from being double teamed. Again this is just my opinion.

Neither really have much trade value because of age and lack of pass rushing ability.

Coleman's legs are about to go and I'd be surprised if he is on the team next year.

Spears is still a good rotational guy and possible starter as he is still a load at the point of attack and our best DL against the run by a wide margin. I actually think he was under-utilized last year because Ryan felt more comfortable with Coleman.

Because the Cowboys get lucky in the later rounds from time to time.

Be careful what you wish for.

Unless we can clearly upgrade, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I'm not saying I wouldnt want to upgrade the position, as I feel it might be our biggest weakness on defense. Yes, even more than corner, but I'm not sold on it. I think we need one more corner to be legit. I think we need two more defensive ends to truly wreck the havoc we are desiring.

But they play the run very well, and you always need that out of your defensive line I dont care what scheme you run.

That's not luck.

It's called good, in-depth scouting.

Granted you have to get somewhat lucky, but teams have a draft board. If they think they can get someone who can really help their team in the 7th round, they're not going to draft him in the 4/5th obviously.

I think they have a pretty good draft board for the most part. Sometimes you get who you desire, sometimes you dont and have to deviate a bit.

They won't trade them for the same reason they extended Scandrick and Sensi.

You simply can't replace your entire team in one offseason.

They've got enough holes to fill without making their jobs that much more difficult.

Good point. But if you can clearly upgrade the position, I think you have to do it. Not in the first round, but I would be fine drafting a disruptive playmaker on the defensive line any other.
