I would start by stating that I don’t think we have a shot at Patrick Peterson. Outside of that, I would probably prefer to stay put and draft Cam. But heck, we are a long ways from the draft so who wants to stay put right now. The Pats need an elite pass rusher and they have plenty of ammo to get one this year. This would be the best time to pull the trigger on a trade up for them.
Dallas Anticipated Offseason Moves:
Outside Free Agents:
Tyson Clabo (RT) – I’ve seen this floated around by several folks and I can’t disagree with it. I don’t see Jerry trusting the edge to a rookie.
Resigned FA:
Doug Free (LT) – No brainer
Bowen (DE) – I think the lower tender offer on Spears will be a big factor in his leaving. We need to resign Bowen.
Gerald Sensabaugh (SS) – I don’t like the prospect of changing out both safeties. Sensy is serviceable.
Draft:
NE trades to Dallas: #17 and #28 - 1610 points
Dallas trades to NE: #9 and 3rd (#235) and 6th (#171) - 1608 points
1st Round
Pick #17: J.J. Watt, DE Wisconson
He’s strong enough to handle double teams, plays the run well, has a good rip move and, best of all, he plays mean. Could also play TE in goal line situations and has a knack for blocking kicks.
Pick #28: Steve Wisniewski, OG/C, Penn State
Very intelligent, very sound. A long-term anchor on the offensive line. This is the type of talent that we have wanted and missed out on for several years running (Unger in 2009 and Iupati in 2010).
2nd Round
Pick #40: Quinton Carter, FS, Oklahoma
Good speed and tackling skills. Fluid hips. A very reliable “last line of defense”. Can line up in man if needed and does well at sniffing out bubble screens. Big upgrade over Alan Ball, who can switch back to the 4th corner role.
4th Round
Pick # 109: Bilal Powell, RB, Louisville
A pure power back to take over the position vacated by Marian Barber. Average speed, but has soft hands and is a very tough runner.
5th Round
Clint Boling, G/T Georgia
A young Kyle Kosier. Kosier can help teach him to be Kosier for a year.
7th Round
Phillip Livas, PR/KR, Louisiana Tech
Return specialist. small, but fast.
