Does Mavsfan really want to watch him play his last seasons on that roster? If you really love someone you need to be able to let them go.

So in the interest of not having to watch him flail in futility this season and aquiring assets to help down the line, I have been thinking of squads Dirk could go to and contend.

Pelican, Raptors, Hawks and PAcers all make sense. Where would you like Dirk to go?

Only team he'd consider would be San Antonio. He's pretty tight with Duncan.

I can't see him wandering far from Dallas. My guess is, he takes his victory tour next year.

Cuban should max him now. That money isn't going to anyone else, and Dirk didn't have to take such a discount.

Going to San Antonio isn't something I think he could do. That would be treason in the eyes of the Mavs fan base, like a knife through the heart.

Either CLE or no where.
He wouldn't play in the West at all and definitely not for SAS.

GSW probably only real option in the West.

Kobe's much better and on a much worse team. What makes Dirk so special?

fwiw, Washington would actually be a terrific fit. the would not get past Cleveland, but would be the 2nd best team in the east.

However, if there plan was to trade Dirk and rebuild, the smart thing would have been to not sign Matthews.

I can't see that he'd want to do that. He already has a ring. And the list of legitimate contenders with actual space (cap or lineup) for him is pretty small.

I'm still fantasizing about the idea of Dirk playing his final years with San Antonio. With all their other additions this summer, that team would go 82-0.
