Trading down? It doesn't make sense

It doesn't make sense. 18 is the perfect pick this season. A top 10-12 talent will fall to pick 18 for us. I see one of Warmack, Richardson, Vaccaro, Werner, Jarvis Jones, or Carradine still being there when we pick. This is why teams like the Giants, and Packers always hit on late first rounders because they sit there and take best player available. I wouldn't be upset at all with anyone of these players. Please stay put and try not to get quantity over quality like you did in 09.

I am calling it now, if we trade back, I got a bad feeling that whoever the player is that slipped into the Giants hand will haunt this team for the next decade or so. I got a bad feeling it is going to be Carradine.

I have a feeling that you will have a bad feeling no matter what happens...but that is just a feeling so who knows. ;)

I see a bunch of developmental guys and guys with bust potential at 18. If there isn't a safe pick at 18 I say trade down and draft BPA and leverage more picks to increase our chance of hitting on a couple. That's how Jimmy Johnson did it with all those picks from the Vikings.

I would be fine with them trading down 3-4 slots as long as when they do so, they still have 3-4 guys they are comfortable taking. That way at least one of them would still be available when the time came. I am hoping that we do not trade up, unless one of a couple of high profile options (ex. Star) slip to the 13-16 range.

I wish people would quit comparing 2009 to 2013.
  • The draft classes are entirely different.
  • The sweet spot in this years draft, where 25-40 projected (eventual) starting quality players are still on the board is in the 2-3 rounds. Many analysts think after the first 15 players or so, it flattenes out...where the value of the next 20-30 or so is all similar.
  • Dallas did not even have a 1st round pick in 2009.
  • Dallas' 1st stupid trade down in 2009, dropped them all the way to the 3rd round...that was our very 1st pick...in the 3rd round.
  • And then there's the obvious...if you pick the wrong players, it does not matter where you pick.
I hope Dallas stays at 18 if a good player is there. But don't force fit a player there if the value is way off.

Clearly, if a player that Dallas likes, and is a top 15-20 value, is there at 18, you take him and don't get cute.

i see value in trading back but i don't see it happening. i don't see much of a scenario where there is a guy people will want to trade up for.
i suspect as i have for a long time that if cooper and warmack or gone we will go with a dt. that dt will be either richardson or s. williams
then we will look guard in the 2nd and a guy i think they will love will be frederick

Double talker Jery Jones was hinting at the press conference a few times that he was thinking of moving down, and with the numerous holes on this team along the offensive and defensive lines, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the cowboys move back to around the 25th spot to pick up a second or third round pick..

If they traded down today before seeing how the draft falls, your point would be valid. How about waiting until draft day, see who is available when the pick, and then see what they actually do before complaining and declaring it a big mistake. If a top 10-12 talent on their board falls, they will likely take him. Just have some patience. There will be months and years worth of time to complain after they actually do something.

I'd love to move back potentially 5-8 spots and get a third rounder. Solid depth in the first 3 rounds.
