I know its a popular idea like it is every year, and it always seems logical. But what are the odds this actually happens

They have traded down in the first round twice in the last 20. Is that a telling trait, or a meaningless stat?

I think the higher the pick the more opportunity to trade down. Dallas has not had that many high picks in the last 20 years. There will be a QB there, maybe Bosa or Ramsey or other player a team might be willing to trade up for. I have no idea what the odds are but higher than normal. IMO

Thats a good point. But is it opportunity or philosophy?

Seems unlikely unless another team covets a QB we don't have rated high enough. I guess someone could trade up if they think Ronnie Staley is a franchise LT type, but I can't see any team being dumb enough to give up big assets for guys like Bosa, Ramsey, or Jack.

I don't mind a small trade down. But I would insist on a 2nd round pick to do so.

The only way I want a trade down, and getting a 2nd round is a must. None of these 2 3rds and a 4th type crap. But our 1st round in the trade down is we get Zeke Elliot.
If not, then I don't want any part of it.

how about 4th for rams 15th and their two seconds? Im sure they would love to start off with Goff in Las Angeles.

This could work.
Our 1st is worth 1800 points and the Rams is 1050, their 2nd would be around 430, depending if it's the 15th pick in the 2nd round.
So it depends on where their other 2nd round is. If it's from the Commanders, it would be around the 21st pick and be worth 370 points.
We would gain 50 points in value.

I would only trade down if I had the opportunity to pick four of the top 50 players available in the draft. Is there a team out there willing to give up a butt-load of draft picks?

I wouldn't mind two top 20 picks either. Not sure if possible though. Actually if you look at the value chart, the 4th pick has the same value as picks 12 and 13 combined.

I wouldn't put anything past Jerry. It would gave to be something where they could still get their guy though.

My thoughts exactly.

Dooable with a short trade down getting extra 2nd rounf pick.

Bundle a second rounder ours and our 3rd round pick and your back in the bottom of the first.

To back this up with some numbers on a trade. Please forgive me if I missed that a team does not have a pick in that round.
We pick 4th. Trade partners could be San Francisco, Miami or Tampa.
Using our 1st round pick only.
Trade with San Francisco would be their 1st, 3rd, 5th and maybe 7th.
Trade with Miami would be their 1st, 3rd, 4th.
Trade with Tampa Bay would be their 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th.
Now with the extra 3rd trade the Cowboys 2nd round pick bundled with the extra 3rd round pick from one of the above teams.
Trade back into the first round at approximatly position 22nd to 26th if someone is still available and his rating by scouting staff warrents that high a pick.
It get's the Cowboys a home run hitting back.
It get's trader Jerry some juice.
It get's a few extra late round picks.

I agree but I wouldn't call that a win. I'm saying our #4 is equal to (if you take the draft value chart seriously) the #12 and #13 pick. So if we give up our #4 and anything else, we're losing value.

Dallas has either traded up, down or traded their first probably 40-50 percent of the time under Jerry and we can't go far up. Sure we don't always trade down but Jerry isn't afraid to move around.

Its funny that draft picks are similar to poker chips. Their value changes once you convert them into real players and cash.

Most people are much more loose with chips and picks than they are with cash and players.

The Rams might trade the 15th, 43rd and 45th for the 4th but would they trade Paxton Lynch, Vernon Butler and Derrick Henry for Jared Goff.

Once the draft is over the order of selection is not nearly as important. The 4th player is generally is NOT worth the 17th and 18th player combined.

Trading back is usually the much better choice but you need a second team to pull it off.
