Trading Partners

I've seen quite a few mocks that have us trading down so it brought me this question. What teams might want to move up and for who? What teams have the most ammunition to make a move?

The Patriots have been an obvious choice but what about a team like the Rams needing a WR? What about Seattle for a QB?

What teams would you like to see us trading with?

Trade up partners? Look for teams who want a QB before Washington at 10.

Potential partners...

Vikings at 12
Dolphins at 15 (I think they'll stick with Henne, but you never know.)
Jaguars at 16
Seahawks at 25 (Least likely, but possible.)

Maybe even Washington at 10 if they think one of those teams is going to grab the guy they want.

If there's no CBA before the draft, there will likely be less motivation for anyone to trade. Teams will prefer to hold onto their draft picks as its the only sure way to improve their team for 2011.

I disagree, I think it would give team's greater motivation to try and move around to get the guys they want. If there's no CBA agreement a team like Minnesota may feel inclined to move up for the QB due to their need for one. Same thing with STL and a WR or any other team with a glaring need, teams will have a sense of urgency to fill their need with the possibility of no FA until August.

Oy. If there is no CBA there is no team to improve

Patriots:
The Patriots are an obvious choice because they have so many picks and would probably like to reduce that number for higher "quality" players. They have been missing a premium pass rusher on that defense since Seymour left and would probably move up this season if one of the better defenders were still on the board.

Trade: Patriots Trade their 1st (17), 2nd (60) and 3rd (92) to Dallas for their 1st

Point Value: Pats picks = 1382 vs Dallas = 1350

San Diego
San Diego is another potential trading partner because of their need at Wide receiver and Pass Rusher. They are losing Merriman and are franchising Jackson again this season. They have said that they do not plan on negotiating a long term deal with Jackson. In other words, they may want to get a new premium receiver in this draft to replace him. If a premium pass rusher is there or if Julio Jones jumps up the draft boards after the combine, the trade value is perfect for both teams:

Trade: San Diego trades their 1st (18), 2nd (50) and 2012 3rd for Dallas 1st (9)

Est Value: Using current year 4th round value for SD's 2012 3rd: SD = 1366 vs Dallas = 1350

I used Dallas as receiving the higher value because I think they would be fine with staying put and grabbing the best player on their board, so the onus would be on the trading team to give up a little more than they get in return.

I like both of these scenarios because it would give Dallas ammo to move back into the end of the first to grab an OT or Wisneiwski.

We'll see I guess, but I still dont think so and I think teams that do try and trade are going to have to pay a real premium.

Also if there's no CBA, no players can be dealt for picks either.

I think they'll get a deal done eventually and there will be a 2011 season, but depending on when it gets done there may be very little time to sign free agents, or perhaps no free agency period at all.

This is a pretty loaded FA group, teams know their situations and what they value these guys at.

I could see more teams re-signing their own guys though if it came down to a new guy coming in on short notice or a comparable player who knows the system

Makes me kind of want to bring in OJ now since we can bring him in now and hes perfect for Ryans defense

Jags at 16 are interesting because they have a lot of needs in positions that most likely will be available at #9.

True, I could definitely see them trying to move up for Robert Quinn.

Jags could trade their 1st, 2nd and 3rd to Dallas for the Cowboys #1 and #3. Jags give up 1,600 points and Cowboys give up 1,585 points.

Vikings don't have a third, so they would probably have to trade their #1 and #2 for Dallas #1 and #3 and #4.

Vikings give up 1,670 points and Dallas gives up 1,661 points.

I doubt teams are going to stick so closely to that chart. It's a new ballgame.

:)
