2014 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Run Blocking

Turner shows some special qualities in the running game. He shows a great initial punch, is able to gain momentum quickly and gets behind his pads really well allowing him to be a bulldozer at times. Turner consistently is able to create space in the running game and will occasionally send opponents reeling.

He is great getting to the second level and can land multiple blocks on the same play when the linebacker is in front of him.

Pass Protection

Turner is a solid pass blocker. He has more than enough lateral agility to do the job and is really stout in a phone booth. His natural strength and base make it a really natural move for him to anchor and absorb power with a punch that can get him control of the play

Footwork

Turner has the feet to do the job, but just needs to get to a point where they are always on display. Both from his quickness and burst, Turner is great on a play or few, but when he is tired, it has a big impact. Ability wise, he can clearly do it and just needs to be able to do it a higher percentage of the time or NFL defenders will take advantage and beat him when he wears down

if he falls to 5 th round Jerry better hop on this guy IMO

I'm a fan of this player. He would be a steal in the 5th, but I think he could go earlier.

He's a redshirt Sophomore. He would probably be one of the top Guards next year if he stayed in school.

He's not making it to the 5th...wouldn't shock me if he went in the 3rd honestly. 4th round is where I'd like us to pull the trigger if he's still there.

If Zack Martin was the BPA at #16, I would trade down and with the extra pick and the Cowboys' own 3rd or 4th I would acquire 2 of the following:

Billy Turner
Brandon Thomas
Dakota Dozier
Trai Turner

I'd take that in a heartbeat. Definitely better value than just Martin

I'm on board with Dozier & Turner. I'm hoping that 5 to 6 picks are used to shore up both lines. Once they have bee establish you can add pieces to the puzzle around them.

* OG Trai Turner – LSU – 6-3, 310

The Eagles met with him at the Combine. Here’s what he noted.

“I never had a specific favorite team. It was a blessing to be there. San Francisco was my most intense meeting, the questions they asked. You are only in the room for 15 minutes, it’s rapid-fire. They talked about (former Tiger) Eric Reid and what a high-character guy he was.

“I was in a meeting with the Jets going over my film. One of the coaches said, ‘Dang, you like to hit people, don’t you?’ I said ‘Yeah’, and the coach said, ‘Well, don’t hit me.’

“Some were funny and some were intense. The Eagles asked me a lot about Coach Miles, what kind of guy he was, what did he do at practice, game rituals.

Interesting that the Eagles were picking his brain about Coach Miles. My guess is that they were trying to see what Turner thought of Miles and how he did things. Chip Kelly is a unique and demanding coach. If a prospect didn’t handle tough coaching well at the college level, he’s not likely to fit into Kelly’s program.

interesting statement

I think that what college coach would do

that's why Jimmy an Harbaugh were so good at the beginning at the pro level - still had those college connection
