1. The O-line is dominating: Seems like the only guy having any success on the D-line is Demarcus Lawrence with every other DT and DE lining up in an orderly fashion to quietly hand over their lunch money while making sure to avoid eye contact. Taco was unhappy with La'el taxing him his entire month's lunch money, he's gonna be eating franks and beans for the month.

2. Beasley is breaking ankles: One on one drills have always been his forte, so take it with a grain of salt, but he's doing it from the outside which is something we haven't seen. He's super hard to shut down though and I think he's gotten better with his route running. DB's need to learn to get hands on him early like Scandrick always tried. At least he occasionally had some success.

3. B.Jones is balling at CB: Looks like the competition for the RCB spot ends before it ever really started. He's doing a nice job jamming guys on the release, directing WR's outside and then out jumping them to make the play. It's training camp but there are shades of Jaylon Ramsey here, without the nasty streak.

4. Blake Jarwin is flashing: He seems to be athletic and quite refined in his route running. Don't think I've seen a safety get near him yet which is good for him, and an indictment on our Safeties.

5. Lance Lenoir is a smokey: Didn't think much of him last year but he's no longer the JAG he was. Seems to be making plays on even our best DB's and quietly making a name for himself as a guy that could make the roster.

6. Safeties anonymous:
Haven't really seen a big play from a single safety. They've generally had their ***** handed to them by the TE's and I don't think these TE's are that good.

7. DB's a mixed bag: Jones the stand out, Chidobe and Lewis have flashed. The rest have been pretty poor, Brown included. Was hoping to notice Duke Thomas, haven't yet.

My concern is WR & TE on O. Think about Staubach & Aikman. Gotta have a Bob Hayes, Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek and Jason Witten playmaker type to win. What we have at Zeke at RB, we lack in the other key positions.
Heard a report that a championship team has at least 6-8 key playmakers at key positions to win a division and advance. We don't have that.

Cant tell anything until games begin but this post does get me excited about Byron Jones.

Maybe it just me, but it's hard to get excited about Beasley I see a couple regular season games. Couple challenges he has to overcome IMO. Can he beat the consistent double-teaming he will certainly face? He struggled last year and that was with Dez and Witten on the field. Technique and/or route running may be the answer but he can certainly expect a bullseye on his back. Another issue is lining him up outside. Again just me, but I don't this working at all coz his lack speed and height. As we all know he's waay more quick than fast and the closer 6'0+ DBs play him the less chance he has of getting open. Botton line, targeting Beasley outside is an interception waiting to happen IMO. Why not keep him inside and figure out ways to beat double-team.

Lack of tackling makes next to impossible to grade any DL success during practice.

Mark this down.....if stays healthy, Byron Jones will finish the season as a top 10 leader in interceptions and challenge for pro bowl selection. Said this before, he and Jaylon Smith will our 2018 version of DLaw.

Not sure how much I buy Bease as an outside threat. Can't bracket on the outside like you can inside but not sure it matters.

Having the smaller WRs on the outside and the larger WRs inside helps in the run game. Can it be effective in the pass game? This could be huge in determining if the smash spread will work.

Good OP thanks

according to a report by BTB Jaylon smith got beat pretty badly in trying to be in coverage on sunday practice

That wasn't as much The Bease fault as it was everying else. The D's adjusted to his '16 season and the Cowboys never adjusted back. It had nothing to do with Dez and JWit being on the field.

Good post, some thoughts.

1. The OL should be very good, as long as they are healthy. I am really curious to watch Williams in preseason. If he's good, this OL could be disgustingly great. On the flipside, people seem really bullish with this DL but I really have some questions. I think the talent level at DT is average at best, especially with Irving being a non-factor for however long he's a non-factor. I think there are way more questions along this DL than many are willing to admit. Just have to hope Lawrence has another big year and someone else steps up at DE like Charlton or maybe even Ealy.

I light a candle daily that they bring in Hankins sometime during the middle of camp on a fairly cheap deal.

2. Beasley is breaking ankles: One on one drills have always been his forte, so take it with a grain of salt, but he's doing it from the outside which is something we haven't seen. His drop off in play last year was disappointing, regardless of who you want to blame for it. He's going to be a key player for Dak this year IMO. He has to play much better.

I understood why they tried him at FS but it became pretty obvious he was better suited for CB than safety as you got to see him man up TEs and slot WRs. I think this move will pay off for the Cowboys. We could have two really good CBs in 2018 - Awuzie and Jones.

4. Blake Jarwin is flashing: He seems to be athletic and quite refined in his route running. Don't think I've seen a safety get near him yet which is good for him, and an indictment on our Safeties.

I don't know what to think of the TEs and WRs until we see them face real competition. As you said, are our TEs playing really well thus far or are they exposing a real weakness at S? I am probably a total fool, but I am still holding out a bit of hope for Gathers. If he is really as good pass catching as they say, then a quality coaching staff should be able to find ways to use him, even with his blocking shortcomings.

5. Lance Lenoir is a smokey: Didn't think much of him last year but he's no longer the JAG he was. Seems to be making plays on even our best DB's and quietly making a name for himself as a guy that could make the roster.

I thought he flashed at times in camp last year as well. I don't believe he makes the 53. If they carry 6 WRs - Hurns, Williams, Beasley, Gallup, Austin and Thompson. No, I don't think Austin is being listed as a TB. That seems like a fantasy land exercise created by some fans who are trying to get guys like Lenoir or Wilson (before he got hurt) onto the 53. Austin is a WR.

6. Safeties anonymous: Haven't really seen a big play from a single safety. They've generally had their ***** handed to them by the TE's and I don't think these TE's are that good.

I will say it again, but I really struggle with Marinelli's and the front office's thinking at S. They have three roster caliber safeties in camp and a bunch of roster fodder. God forbid one of the three gets hurt. My fear is they do something stupid like they did at DT last year and end up moving Awuzie or Jones back to S if they find themselves short a player at that position. They never should have moved Collins at DT but they were forced to because of dumb roster decisions at DT. Please don't repeat that at S.

7. DB's a mixed bag: Jones the stand out, Chidobe and Lewis have flashed. The rest have been pretty poor, Brown included. Was hoping to notice Duke Thomas, haven't yet.

I am not really concerned at CB at this time. But ask me again in 4 weeks. LOL.

I hate how we use our LBs in coverage. We seem content in giving up easy 5 yard passes over the middle. I can't tell you how many times I laughed last year watching a replay of our LBs turning and sprinting 10 yards down the field to get into deep coverage only to watch a team just hit an easy 5-7 yarder on them.

It’s still early yet. Wilson got hurt. We are already thin at WR talent so that sucks.

But wasn't that zeke!?

I mean some "L's" are an exception

Byron doesn’t get the job until He performs in real games. He may get the spot at first but I’m sure it can be taken away quickly.

He was so solid at Corner as a rookie that i'm sure he'll be a quality corner for us this year.

can't rush to judgement only after 2 days with pads on. Its Woods job to lose at safety. meaning IF HE DOESN'T SHOW OUT soon, the Earl Thomas trade is gonna happen. He won't have anyone to blame but himself. He's being given every chance. The tightends did what they wanted on him...NOT GOOD,but I'm willing to give it a few more practices before I say anything either way.

If a trade is going to happen it needs to happen yesterday. He needs to be in our system for a bit. I don’t care if he is a vet and can catch on quick. He needs snaps with the team mates. I personally don’t think we are going to give the seahags the draft pick to get him.

WE WILL,BUT IT WONT BE WHAT THEY WANT. I see a conditional 3rd rounder in the mix. I think once Richard has an internal meeting with JG,JJ and Stevie..Will McClay,I think after a few practices, he will either say hey..Woods aint the answer..or hey, we don't need ET because Woods is getting better. Its gonna be up to Richard and the feedback he gives. This is effectively Woods tryout for a starting safety gig. If he fails,he needs to shut up and take his lumps. The young man may need to be a back up for a while and learn that way.We will know I think what we will do on the ET front by Friday. That gives Woods more time to prove himself.

7. I think this is the best trade Seahawks GM John Schneider could make for Thomas: acquiring a conditional third-round pick in 2020 from Dallas or Oakland for him. If Thomas makes 10 starts in 2018, Seattle gets the third. If he makes any less, Seattle gets a fourth. Just do it. It’ll make both sides look smart by November.
