Does anyone have experience with transferring their Uverse service to a new residence without having an AT&T technician come out and do the install? If so, overall how difficult was the process?

Long story short, I'm moving on short notice within the same apt complex and would be without cable/internet for about a week and a half if I choose to have the technician do the install.

Any advice?

They suck beyond comprehension. And the internet speed is slow, but I didn't manage the migration directly. Presumably they just send you the router and enable the software on the back end, though, right? My technician didn't do anything other than circumvent my existing wireless with the new box. Took about 30 mins.

I have transferred service with them several times. They always require someone to come and install even when I had the equipment. If I was lucky, they could get me an appt in 4 or 5 days but that usually wasn't the case.

I went back to Comcast a month ago and couldn't be happier even though they have their own problems.

I actually have all the equipment. I think it would be as easy as just plugging it in, but I'm not entirely sure on that.

When they set everything up 2 years ago, there wasn't much work to be done, but the guy did ask me what room I wanted it in and then messed around with the telephone network interface box that's usually located on the outside of a house.

Yeah it seems when I'm trying to schedule the transfer of service for the network, it requires me to select a date for a tech.

I might just have to see if I can get a tech out earlier from another provider. I think I'm just limited to time warner here though.

I would go with TW over U-Verse.

Looks like it's an option, anyway:

I'd schedule it and then see if I can do it, anyway. Just hand the installer a beer and watch a rerun of the Seattle game with him if you have it on the DVR when he comes out next week. Or cancel on him, whichever is easiest.

Why would you choose att if you can get twc? Faster speeds and no data caps
